A 'S V ,Pik- by it! iv-1v .,.f 193'l'f' 4, STABLISHED in 1937, Meridian Senior High School-Junior College is the first public municipal junior college south of the Mason-Dixon line and east of the Mississippi River and the twenty- first of its kind in the United States. Change was made from the 6-3-3 plan because of the necessity of enlarging the senior high school as it then existed, and because of the belief that the first two years of college were an essential part of secondary education. With this last idea in mind, one of the major purposes of the school is to do everything possible to project the college attitude downward into the senior high school group, giving those students more freedom and lending them more dignity. On the other hand, individual attention is given to the college students as freely as it is to high school students. Both high school and junior college students are encouraged to participate in school activities, working together on such projects as yearbook, paper, plays, and most clubs. This work gives them a feeling of unity and teaches them cooperation. 2746 S C
