Student Body Officers The student body officers, with the exception of two, are elected in the spring of each year by an all-school election, following a week of vigorous cam' paigning by various candidates for the positions. The students to fill the offices of secretary and vice-pres- ident are elected in the fall of the next year. The president this year, Larry Rodgers, had the iob of presiding over all meetings of the student council and all assemblies. The vicelpresident, Bob Holz, had as his duty to take over meetings and preside at events when the president was absent. Mericlian's system of handling money has proved very accurate and satisfactory. At the head of this system is Joyce Hayes, the student body treasurer, who takes care of the money from every organization in the school. Recorcling the minutes of each student council meeting is the iob of the student body secretary, Jackie Aker. Student Council Student Council consists of the stuclent body officers, class presidents, and representatives. Problems pertinent to the student body are brought uo in the meetings which are held each month, Aside from their regular duties, the Student Council co-sponsored a dance in the winter. Meridian is justifiably proud of its officers and the Student Council for the democratic student government and stability in financing school organizations which they provide. Girls' Club The Girls' Club consists of all the girls in Meridian. Under the presidency of Judy Mills they had a suc- cessful year filled with a variety of events. The year was started with the Big and Little Sister masquerade party, held to welcome the freshmen girls Prizes were given for the mos! original costumes, fol- lowr-d by ifnpromptu skits by groups of girls in their CO3l'JmOS. Christmas cards and wrappings were sold, and food was packed for the Salvation Army at Christmas time, The Big and Little Sisters exchanged gifts at the all- school Christmas assembly. As a proieit for the year, the lighting was improved in the girls' room and a new mirror was purchased. A certain grade point average must be obtained each year to become a member the following year, and points are allowed for participation in school activities, Since the club's purpose is primarily honorary, it is socially inactive. However, a musical assembly was presented before the student body during the year by the club. The Torch Club attended an organ recital at Western Washington College given by Virgil Fox, organist of Riverside Church of Ne.v York. The new members were guests of the club for the evening.
