Ivan G. Smith Ivan G. Smith gained his earliest education in his native town of Eastham. Massachusetts. He was graduated from the Somerville Latin School, in 1905, and from Harvard College, in 1000, with the degree of A. B. In 1909 he accepted a position as principal of Essex, Massachusetts, High School. During the summer of 1910 he attended the Harvarml Summer School, and in the autumn of that year went as assistant principal to the Quincy, Mas- sachusetts, High School, where he remained until 1913. In that year he came to Meriden High School as assistant principal and instructor of physics and general science. In this position he remained until December 15, 1917, when he was made acting principal upon the departure of Mr. Bacon to training camp. 11
