WHO’S WHO SUSAN KING was chosen to receive the DAR Award for the year 1968-69. She was chosen on the following basis: Patriotism, dependability, leadership, service, and citizenship. Among the many awards given to students, The Outstanding Teenager of America award was given to three students at our school this year: Kathy Allen, Allen Chrisman, and Jack Howell. RODGER HANNEL was selected to attend Boys' State held at the State Fair grounds in the summer of 1968. His selection was based on loyalty, leadership, and scholarship. COLETTE BOGUE was selected to attend Girls' State held at MacMurray College in the summer of 1968. Her selection was based on loyalty, lead- ership, and scholarship. BETTY STAAKE was named Homemaker of Tomorrow by receiving the highest score on the Betty Crocker test given on December 3, 1968.

JACK EUGENE HOWELL July 20, 1951 - February 18, 1969 JACKSON Pet Peeve: Mo-Ped Basketball, 3; Football, 1, 3, 4; Baseball, 1, 2, 3; Track, 1; All School Play, 3; Class Officer, 4; Jr-Sr Play, 3 RUSSELL BROWN RUSS Pet Peeve: Sitting in geometry and listening to corny jokes if 1X1 Jack had the quiet dignity to be a person of consistent, sincere accomplishment. His Class of 1969 has unanimously voted to award, in his memory, the first annual 'Jack Howell Memorial Athletic Award. The award requires participation in three major sports and Jack was outstanding in baseball and football and also had participated in basket- ball. Jack fully possessed the other stipulations of the award: high character, co-operative personality, inspiring leadership, and high academic achievement. Asa sophomore. Jack led the M-C H. S. baseball team in batting average. He was a leading hitter during his junior year. In football he was regularly a top blocker-tackier. Despite his illness during the first semester of his senior year. Jack maintained consistent interest and support of the teams and he put forth high academic accomplishment de- spite 52 days of absence during the semester. He was also named as an Outstanding Teenager of America by the faculty. We salute Jack. We dedicate many of our higher efforts to him.
