THE 1961 CHIEF MEREDOSIA - CHAMBERSBURG HIGH- SCHOOL MEREDOSIA , ILLINOIS DEDICATION A. . MgSI sir' W L DEDICATION To our parents, faculty. Board of Education, fellow students, and friends who have helped in count- less ways to make our school life so full and abundant, and who have tried to prepare us to meet the re- sponsibilities of our future lives, we, the Class of 1961, dedicate our yearbook. ANNA MAE HYATT Superintendent Principal World History Assistant Basketball Coach PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE Secretary Congratulations to the Class of 196 0 for completion of the secondary phase of your formal education. The road has not been an easy one but that is as it should be. The worthw.hile things in life must be earned. The more difficult it is to earn the greater you will cherish the reward. For some of you graduation will mark the completion of your formal education. Others will continue with college, trade school, or military service. Each one should select a goal for his life and strive to achieve that goal. As you live each day try to become more tolerant of others and keep an open mind. Prejudice and bigotry should be avoided. Be willing to try new ideas. Mental growth can be a continuous thing. If you do not continue to grow you will stagnate. You can either progress or regress. Only you can make that choice. Speaking for the faculty I can truthfully say we have enjoyed having you in school. We will all follow your future careerswith much interest. Return to visit us. On behalf of the Board of Education and of the faculty let me again congratulate you on a job well done. Chel Young Wessler Electric Shop Arenzville, Illinois Bessell's Flower Shop Mt. We wandered around tne school in a daze invading the classrooms. We hadn't journeyed in this strange but beautiful school long before the upper classmen laid traps through which we blundered for days on end. Then really being very nice people at heart, they gave us an initiation party. In August, 1958, we entered our sophomore year with a total of thirty. We found we had lost nine and hadn't gained any. Mr. Savoie was ou. class sponsor. We weren't much bigger, but we were somewhat wiser. In August, 1959, we entered the state of upper classmen with 28 members. We had xos 2 and gained 1. We found we had a new class sponsor, Mrs. Cloyd who also directed our play, Finders' Creepers . At this time we received our class rings. Our Junior-Senior Prom theme was Moonlight and Roses. Our class tlower was a red rose, the colors were red and white, and our motto was Mot finished; just beginning. In August, 1960, we entered our senior year and are beginning to look ahead seriously to our future. We have a total of 27, with a loss of four, and a gain of three. Our class sponsor for thit year is Mr. Major. Our class play was entitled Deadly Earnest. We are looking forward to our Junior-Senior Prom, our class trip, and graduation. As we look back over these past four years at M. C. H. S. we will always remember all the memorable occasions. CLASS ' 'As we read our tea leaves, we foretell the future of 27 brainless brats . The year .... 1971. Some have been prosperous, others the same as always. Come one! Come all! See Ed Barrett, the Maestro,on the trapeze. He flies through the air with the greatest of ease ... .the funniest part, we took down his trapeze. Captain Jerry Gregory, of the Sinking Vessel, was fined for swimming in the Pacific Ocean. When questioned, his reason was: Not enough salt in his diet. See Kay Hobbs play basketball with the Harlem Globe Trotters. She is quite an asset to the team and has kept their name famous. When will he jump? Larry Wilhite is on top of Pike's Peak. His former fiance, or should we say finance. Ruby McGoon of Kalitzky's Chorus Line, just married Gus Lepper. Who's this?? Oh! Yes, it's Gook Rausch dressed in white. Is that a drink he's mixing? My mistake, it's just a new experiment on how to make the hair grow with Carbon Tetrachloride. Rugged Pete Bradley is still pushing the plow over his 10, 000 acres of land. His wealth remains within his farms. And here they come around the turn, into the lead goes Amego Conzolus Lord Rumpus the Great, with Katie Leahr still on his back. This will be their 50th win of the year. Dub Hannel is spending this month in Plainville with his many friends. Dub has become quite rich because of betting on Katie's top horses. All I can see is sticks. Oh, there he is. Bob Clark. He is now a sheik living by himself in the wilds around Arabia. Poor Bob, just too many girls ! As we turn over a new tea leaf, we see Gary Dugan (a rising scientist, outer space explorer, and former classmate.) Gary is second only to Einstein, but he is working on his own theory. Gary took time out from his preparation for the second manned trip to the moon. Mr. Savoie, our high school science teacher, •was the first to reach the moon. Extra! Extra! ! Read all about it! Harold Hester still has a newspaper bag over his shoulder. He enjoys the job of paper boy so well, that he decided to make it his lifetime occupation. Baptist Electronics Supply Co. Jacksonville, Illinois Drexel Grille and Billiards Jacksonville, Hlinois James White Donut Shop Jacksonville, Illinois 22 Lane's Book Store J acksonville, Hlinois PROPHECY As we turn to another section of our tea leaves, we see that Jim Brim, a strong Democrat and Dick Bradley, a strong Republican, are still giving campaign speeches. Hasn't any one told them that Bob Ham, running on the socialist ticket, has already won? Oh, will it never end? Brenda Browning just returned from Hawaii. Brenda has been named Hawaii's No. 1 Hula-Hula girl in her ooh, la, la, grass skirt! Death Under Toes Dancing Studio has just been remodeled. Their star student, Donald Legs Schlieker will give his toe-dancing recital Friday, the 13th. Gene Dawson, new owner of The Tropicana Nite Club, (once owned by Ricky Ricardo), can be seen beating his bongos, while his main attraction, Alberta Ruh, is dancing to the beat of Bob-a-loo. Coming into view, all that we can see is bars. Wait! There's something behind them. It's none other than Donna Stevens. Oh, well, there's one in every crowd. As we turn over our final tea leaf, we see a sign, Six's Self- Reducing Salon. But whom do we see reducing, Tom himself, in a steam cabinet. Andrea, who was studying to be a nurse, got confused in her course, and is now a Veterinarian. She always was kind of mixed up. Ruth Fuelling, main attraction of the weight lifting acts with the Ten-Ton Brothers Circus, has just beat the world's record in weight lifting. Professor Benny Hannel, Bookkeeping teacher at Schulte Business College, has just resigned to be Dean of Girls at Vassar, Don Hawkshaw is showing off a cup. As we look closer we can see it is the Pulitzer Prize for Great American Literature. The name of his great novel is How Dumb Can You Get? Miss Judy Ellett, known as The Great Blusher , is still in Government class, teaching Mr. Torricelli and his students how to give speeches. Mrs. Donna Bradley, once owner of the Lonely Hearts Club , has just gone out of business because she mistakenly matched her own husband with someone else. The future has been told, and only Seniors could do the job. T and D Implement Co. Evans Insurance Agency Perry. It isn't hard for a team to attain and maintain spirit when they are winning. The difficult task is to keep your spirits high and giving the best one has to offer of himself for the betterment of everyone involved, regardless of the end results. It is easy to say I quit, like many have done in the past when the going gets tough, but it takes a real athlete to say I'll try harder next time, Coach . The underlying objective of all sports as we all know, is to — build character and good sportsmanship. I feel we can be justly proud of the boys and their accomplish- ments on this year's sports program, because I sincerely believe they have given their best to make each and everyone of us proud of our school. In conclusion I feel next year's teams can be teams of which we all will be equally proud. Skinner Funeral Home Griggsville, Illinois Bergman Meat Packing Co. Pittsfield, Illinois A. B.
