» P H I L L 8 PHILOSOPHY We haven't appeared to be improved over last year in any sports. We were trying for improvement. Our football team did not win a ballgame. Our basketball team has only won one. There are several things wrong with our teams. We have a defeatist attitude which is hard to overcome. It can take two or three years to completely overcome this attitude. We don't have enough boys coming out for football and staying out. They can't take the getting in shape phase and can't train three months out of a year. This creates a problem for the boys that stay out, they have no competition for their position and become lazy because they know if I only have 15 or 16 boys out they won't be replaced. In basketball, we don't have any height and naturals. Our tallest boy can jump and jump and only get a few of the rebounds where the opposition has been tall enough to tip the ball in the basket or out for a fast break. In closing, I hope I can break us out of this defeatist attitude and we can begin to compete on a common level as it has been the past.
