Your reactions to grad- uation are as varied as there are individuals in the class. Such is life as no two individuals are alike. We all have our differences. Some of you have worked hard and made the most of your opportunities. Others have not as yet taken life seriously. All of you will have continued opportunities to learn. Try to gain some new knowledge each day. Keep your minds alert and your hearts young. Avoid narrow-mindedness and prejudice. Be tolerant and not bitter. The opportunities for earning your living are many. Choose one in which you will be happy. Remember that the world does not owe you a living but that you owe it much. Seek opportunities for community service. On behalf of the Faculty and Board of Education of Community Unit 1 1 I extend to you our heartiest congratulations on the task completed and wish you well for the future. 5 Chel Young MRS. C. H. S. in the fall of 1955. Those answering the roll were; Violet Ballenger, Mary Brant, Judy Buhlig, Gracie Easley, Sharon Easley, Larry Edlen, Terry Fletcher, Mary Gregory, David Hawkshaw, Richard Hickman, Annetta Holder, George Hull, Margie Hull, Lula May Hunter, Judy Irving, Elizabeth Jobe, Dolores Lawson, Gene Martin, David McDaniel, Joyce Northrup, Anne Perry, Phillip Perry, Sarah Petri, Joyce Rausch, Sue Ann Reining, Alberta Smart, Rondell Sims, Ray Wilhite, John Yeakel, Orval Fanshier, and David Hammond. During the fall we lost the following students: Violet Ballenger, Orval Fanshier, and David McDaniel. At the end of the Freshman year we lpst Alberta Smart, Joyce Northrup, Sharon Easley, and Elizabeth Jobe. When we started our Sophomore year, Mrs Joy, our class sponsor, chaperoned us to St. Louis on our class trip. Finally next to the last rung on the ladder. We added one more to our list, Sharon Easley, only to lose her in the winter along with Terry Fletcher. John Yeakel dropped out of school for a year because of illness. The events taking place this year were the Jr. and Sr. Prom and Jr. class play. The class play entitled Cupid in Pigtails , directed by Mrs. Young, was very exciting for us to present. The Jr. and Sr. Prom, with the theme, Dancing in the Dark, was held in the Dunlap Hotel in Jacksonville. Well, here we are at last-Seniors! Margie Hull and Richard Hickman (now Mr. and Mrs.) did not return this year, but David Hammond joined us. We are looking forward to our class play, Jr. and Sr. Prom, and our class trip.. r Farmers State Bank Farmers and Traders State Bank _____Mcredosia, Illinois______ Here we are in the year of 1969. As I drive into town, I see David Hawkshaw and Ray Wilhite. David is now racing his own car in drag races in California. Ray has his own racing car, but he isn't doing very well, as he wrecked the car. Also in the car with David is Larry Edlen, who is now playing professional football for the Bears. As I pass the Townhouse, I see Sarah Petri, Mary Gregory, Joyce Rausch, and Judy Irving. Sarah is now with the big top Circus on T. V. as a trampoline and acrobatic artist and lives in New York. Mary, who is now Mrs. James Holler, is living in a very expensive house in Newfoundland which Admiral Holler bought for her on her birthday. Joyce, after ten years, is still going steady with Ray Wilhite, but he hasn't popped the important question yet so that she may change her name. Judy is married to Georgie Hull and has a set of twins, one boy and one girl. Georgie is a very handsome movie star and leads a very busy life. Arriving at the school building, I see Lula May Hunter, Anne Perry, Sue Ann Arnold, Judy Buhlig, Mary Brant, Dolores Lawson, and Annetta Holder, who are talking about old times. Lula May is now the secretary for a big factory and gets to sit on the boss's lap. The boss is her husband, with whom she lives in Ohio. Anne is now a registered nurse. She has been helping her husband in the surgery room. Sue Ann is still married and keeps herself busy with modeling and acting in movies. Judy hasn't found the right guy yet, but is still looking as she travels around the world; this year will be her fifth time around. Mary is still going to 4-H. She is an Honorary Member and has won many awards for prize chickens. Dolores is married to Archie Brant. She married him the day school was out and now has two red headed boys. She and Archie live in California. Annetta is married to a traveling preacher so her address could be anywhere in the U.S. A. Walking up to the group is Rondell Sims. He plays a fancy guitar and travels all over the country. He is taking the place of Elvis Presley, who is now forgotten because Rocky Simsy has swept the country. Climbing out of my van I see three men behind the school. They seem to be talking about something. Their names are Phillip Perry, Gene Martin, and David Hammond. Phillip is raising cattle and hogs on his own big farm in Iowa. His calves and hogs have won championships fo - the past seven years. Gene is married to Judy Orchard and owns his own big farm somewhere in Iowa. David Hammond is playing the horses. He isn't married, but is still looking. While coming up the drive-way, I see Virginia Ham. She is trying out a new method of shorthand, where you use a typewriter instead of a pen. I gather together the group of 20 and tell them we will go for a ride after dinner; I can see by the expression on their faces that they are not going to enjoy the ride, but you can't expect everyone to love horses. Take me, though, I have my own ranch and do my own training of my 5, 000 head of horses. Of course, living in Texas we all have a large herd of horses. 19 We the Seniors of 1959, being of sound body and not so sound mind. After four years of ardent work, do hereby declare this last will and testament, revoking all former wills and devices of whatever nature or forms heretofore made by us. Io the Faculty, we will schemes and alibis which we hope will enable them io keep up with the students. To the Juniors, we will our good grades and our ability to get along with the teachers. To the Sophomores, we will the ability to become Juniors without studying. To the Freshmen, we will the right to walk into wrong classes at least a second late. And last, but not least, the individual bequeaths: I, Sue Arnold, will my married life to Donna Stevens and Donnie Hawkshaw. I, Mary Brant, will my ability to ride the school bus every morning to Barbara Jean Lansink and Maggie Baird, who will need it next year. I, Judy Buhlig, will my ability to solve Geometry problems to Janice Summers. I, Larry Edlen, will my ability to sit in study hall and behave myself to anyone who needs it. I, Mary Gregory, will my ability to get to school just before the bell rings to Nancy Rausch. I, Virginia Ham, will my ability to make up my back work to Mike Edlen. I, David Hammond, will to Donnie Schlicker the ability to get along with Miss Schulte. I, David Hawkshaw, will my ability to play basketball to Gary Rausch. I, Annetta Holder, will my dating ability to Shirley Hannel. I, Georgie Hull, will my ability to get out of class to Gary Dugan. I, Lula May Hunter, will my ability to type without errors to Edward Barrett. I, Judy Irving, will my ability to going steady to Roxie Irving. I, Dolores Lawson, will my ability to miss fence post to Sondra Dugan, I, Gene Martin, leave anything I got to anybody that wants it. I, Sarah Petri, will my ability to be mean to any Junior who can keep up with me. I, Anne Perry, will my ability to make mistakes in anything to anybody who wants it. I, Philip Perry, will my ability to roller skate to Edward Barrett. I, Joyce Rausch, will all the themes I've written for the office to Marjorie Rausch. I, Rondell Sims, will my ability to turn corners in front of radar men and get by with it to John Dennis. I, Ray Wilhite, will my twin carburetor to John Dennis. I, Gracie Easley, will my favorite books to anyone who likes horses. Barker Bros. Farmer's State Bank Mt. Sterling, Illinois Mt. Sterling, Illinois or rid A In the record books we haven't had success in our competitive sports but we have learned other things. Perhaps some of these things seem unimportant to the spectators; but, to the coach and to the team they are very important. Some are of great value to me and others to the players. We had a good team spirit; we had a new game every week, no matter how badly we had been beaten the previous week. This is good in the eyes of the coach knowing that the team can still have spirit. We enjoyed the feeling of competition that so very few can actually experience that cannot be valued until one has finished his high school education and gets out in life and meets still more competition. Then his high school athletic experience comes into a new and sourceful use. We have learned to take the knocks and breaks in basketball. We could have used a seven foot center and two six foot six forwards; but, as you know, we did the best we could with what we had. I hope the boys and fans can look back and remember this season without regrets but success. I appreciate the support of the fans and hope to continue to have this support. Democrat Message Mt.
