Never before had such a class invaded the premises. There were thirty-six in our class and Mr. Chel Young was the new head master of our beloved institution. We elected Carol Martin as president and Terry Steinberg as vice-president of our class. Shirley Bunch served as our secretary-treasurer. Lois Riley and Jack Gregory were elected to serve on the Student Council. Mr. Savoie was our spon- sor for the year. Our freshman activities included a one-act play entitled, Candy Goes on a Diet , under the direction of Mr. Young. We went to St. Louis on our class trip. Having completed one year of high school, we started our sophomore year. This was the year when we were known as Silly Sophomores . For our officers that year we elected Ted Clark president and Rosemary Rentz vice-president. Gerry Knight was our secretary-treasurer. Shirley Bunch and Jack Gregory were elected to represent us on the Student Council. Mr. Rueb was our class sponsor. We staged three one-act plays under the direction of Mrs. Mildred Riley. We chose St. Louis as the destination for our class trip. We emerged from silly sophomores to serious minded juniors under the direc- tion of Mrs. Mildred Riley, who was chosen to be our class sponsor. We elected Terry Steinberg as our president and Jim Rausch as our vice- president. Gerry Knight served as our secretary-treasurer. Sue Grammer and Ted Clark were elected to serve on the Student Council. One of the high points of the year was when we received our class rings. Our chief aims that year were directed toward our Prom . We decided to have it in the high school gym. The Chambersburg Christian Church served the dinner and the Yachtsmen furnished the music for our dance. Admission to the dance was by invitation only. Our play for the year was entitled, That Crazy Smith Family , and was under the direction of Mrs. Riley. St. Louis was again the destination for our class trip. We are now in our senior year and are beginning to look ahead seriously to our future. Terry Steinberg is serving as our president and Henry Pool is our vice-president. Lois Riley is acting as our secretary. Ted Clark and Rosemary Rentz are representing our class on the Student Council. Our chief goals for the year are the completion of our annual, planning for our class trip, and Graduation . Mr. James Major is serving as our annual advisor and class sponsor. Mrs. Louise Young directed our play entitled. Mystery of Crazy Canyon Ranch . As we journey into the future, we, the class of 1957, will always remember that the happiest days of our lives were spent at Meredosia- Chambersburg High School. 7 'f-rr Witt We, the class of 1957, being of noisy mind and quiet body, do hereby put forth, on this day of May 24, 1957, our last will and testament. We, the Seniors, will to the Juniors the name, SENIOR, and hope that they live up to the standards which we have set. We, the Seniors, will to the Sophomores the traditions and qualities which have made us so dear to the hearts of our faculty and friends. We, the Seniors, will to the Freshmen the dream of becoming SENIORS. We, the Seniors, will to the Faculty our ability to hold long arguments. At last, the individual bequests: I, Jim Allen, will my ability to pester Miss Schulte to Dick Hall. I, Glen Berghaus, will my ability to get along with teachers to anyone who wants it. I, Archie Brant, will my red hair to George Hull. I, Ted Clark, will my gas mileage to Archie Hunter. I, Ronnie Ellett, will my basketball technique to Jesse Barrett. I, Janell Fuelling, will my trampoline ability to Judy Major. I, Sue Grammer, will whatever is left of the Driver Training car to who- ever wants it. I, Jack Gregory, will my sports ability to Tommy Floyd. I, Dee Holder, will my ability to cut hair to Dick Hall. I, Mable Hunter, will my dating ability to Annetta Holder. I, Nettie Jobe, will my shyness to Elizabeth Jobe. I, Gerry Knight, will my smoothness with the boys to Linda McCormick. 1, Joe McDannald, will my hot rodding ability to Bob Potter. I, Darrell McDannold, will my chemistry ability to Wayne Goewey. I, Henry Pool, will my side burns to John Yeakel. I, Jim Rausch, will my ability to get along with Linda McCormick to Wayne Goewey. I, Rosemary Rentz, will my dainty structure to Mary Jean Steinberg. I, Lois Riley, will my golden tresses to the Sophomore class for their class rings. I, Richard Seymour, will my driving ability to Bob Potter. I, Terry Steinberg, will my locker stacking ability to anyone mean enough to use it. I, Rebecca Van Deventer, will my duck stamp to Mr. Major. We, Lois Riley and Gerry Knight, will our ability to skip classes and get away with it to David Hawkshaw and Ray Wilhite. Thus, we the Seniors, dispose of all our worldly possessions and say good- bye to the underclassmen. To this noble and legal document we fix our sign of the Class of 1957. 15 ropn ecu As we begin our journey to look over the accomplishments of our old class- mates, we stop at Holder's Cushman Courtesy Sales and Services where we will pick up our transportation for the trip., a forty-eight passenger motor scooter. Sue Grammer scoots behind the wheel to give us a few pointers, Sue is now grossing millions yearly teaching her new and revolutionary method of driving called the Touch-and-go method. As soon as the police have gone and the wreckage is cleared away, we board a Grey- hound bus, which will take us to our destination, the Ozarks. About 195 miles later, we come to a sign reading, Jobe's Jute Mill- Turn Right. First the sound of Model A Ford engines that provide power for the mill greets our ears, and then we pull up in front of the mill. Nettie comes out to greet us along with her chief mechanic, Joe McDannald. Joe always drives Nettie's entry at the local race track, a Model A stock car which has been racking up a string of wins lately. As we are about to pull out, a scream is heard and a bunch of young debutantes go running down the road, pursued by the playboy oil man, Jim Rausch. Jim now owns a string of oil stations, which goes under the name of Rauschco. Again we start to leave, but are stopped by gunshots. Richard Sey- mour and Becky VanDeventer scurry by in a cloud of mountain dew hotly pursued by a pair of revenuers, Terry Steinberg and Darrell McDannold. This moonshine racket is a little dangerous, but Becky says there is money in it. As soon as the mist clears the bus goes on. Ahead appears what first looks like a telephone booth, but as we get closer we see the gas pumps and a sign stating, Knight's Service Station. The sign also advertises body and fender work and baby sitting while you-all wait. Ronnie Ellett, who is on vacation from his law practice, has been so lonesome that he has cried throughout the journey. We take him in to Gerry, who soon pacifies him. As we pull on the highway , we are passed by a pink and black Ford Ranchwagon which turns in at the gate to a large ranch. We follow and, sure enough, it is Lois Riley. She operates the ranch with the help of her foreman. Wild-eyed Ted Clark. They got the idea from their senior class play and have been making scads of money ever since. With Lois is her personal fashion consultant, Rosemary Rentz. Lois had to import Rosemary back from Paris and pay her a fancy price in order to make her stay. But it is worth it, she says as she displays her gold embroidered cowboy boots. We would like to stay longer with Lois on her ranch, but we must be on our way. As we pull back on to the highway, we notice a red glow on the horizon. Our guide tells us that this is from the Brant Die Tool Foundry. We are escorted into Mr. Brant's office. When Arch arrives, he cancels all of his appointments for the day in order to show us around the plant. Arch tells us that his wife buys all her furs from Jim Allen, the Mathematical Mind Murdering Fur Trapper. He explains to us that when he gives the mink a math problem, they kill themselves trying to figure it out. Just then Jim comes in bearing a new fur coat. He tells us that this one was caught on Einstein's theory of relativity. Jim is all flustered about the testing operation going on near by. We go to investigate and at the testing grounds we see Mable Hunter being fastened into her new plane, the Space Hunter. At her side is the designer of the plane, Janell Fuelling. Janell has designed several other planes and hopes that this one may fly. We nervously make our exit from the testing grounds and stop at a little diner where we have the good fortune to meet Glen Berg- haus, the United States Secretary of Agriculture. Glen seems tired and tells us the reason for this is that the farm supply mono- poly held by Jack Gregory is keeping him awake at night. It seems that Jack is crowding the market with a revolutionary new harvest- ing machine which was designed by Henry Pool. The machine goes by the trade name of The Lazy Farmer. It all started when Henry designed a robot to run his combine while he watched the Children's Hour. Now the farmers won't buy any other machines and Jack holds the monopoly. Whether this fancy is true or not, perhaps we shall see at our first reunion on December 30, 1960, at the Meredosia-Chambers burg High School. Jacksonville, Illinois 23 National Starch Products Meredosia, Illinois The sports outlook here at M.C.H.S. looks a lot brighter this year than it did last year. Our football season ended with three wins, four loses, and one tie. Although this record isn't too impressive it is a slight improvement over the last two years. We had a small squad of boys, but they had a lot of determination and team spirit. I think the football prospects for next year look good in that we will have several lettermen back. Lettermen who will be lost due to graduation are: Co-captians, Terry Steinberg and Darrel McDannold, Henry Pool, Richard Seymour, Archie Brant, and Jack Gregory. We are, at this writing, in the begin- ning of our basketball season. Our record to date is eight wins and one loss. We are fortunate in having our starting five back from last year plus some good substitutes. I am sure that we will improve last year's twelve wins and twelve losses record. Seniors on the squad are Terry Steinberg, Jack Gregory, Henry Pool, Darrell McDannold, and Ronnie Ellett. This brings us to spring sports. It is rather doubtful that we will have a track team. We usually enter into the conference meet but most of the boys concentrate on baseball. Again the prospects for baseball look bright in that we have a lot of regulars returning. If some of our underclassmen can come through, we should definitely be a threat to win the conference. Here's hoping that the year 1956-57 will live up to my expectations. The records which were established by the athletic teams at this school during the past year are goals for those in the future to strive toward. Many of these achieve- ments do not appear in any record book but are firmly established in the minds of many. They are records of all out effort, great desire, and determination of many to do their best at all times. It is evident that the varsity teams are only as the junior varsity team makes therr through the type of competition they give them day after day on the practice fields and courts. The junior varsity teams this yeai have been very dependable. If this year's fine attitude and spirit of competition carries over, Meredosia- Chambersburg will continue to have teams that will establish even greater records. Some of the conveniences of the new room are: four practice rooms, stationary risers, uniform cabinet space, and new file cabinets. Some events that the band has taken part in during the past year are: marching in the Homecoming Parade and playing at ballgames, community clubs, and P. T. A. 1 s. The band gave a Spring and Christmas Concert and went to Camp Point in the spring for a contest. It also went to Waverly for the Spring Festival. The band has welcomed some new members and are expecting more soon. The new room, music, and new instruments are deeply appreciated by each and every member of the band. So hats off to the members, Mr. Pankey, and those who help make the band possible.
