The twenty-seven included: Ruth Berghaus, Ted Dickman, Betty Gobel. Beverly Gregory, Theda Hobbs, Alene Hulett, Wanda McDannald, Edgar Ham, Dick Simon, Wayne Tegeder, Lila Nunn, Vera Seawalt, Pat Ruyle, Robert Werries, Mildred Workman, Jerry Miller,Glen Robinson, Dean Ruyle, Joseph Schlichting,Raymond Ransom, Daryle Nortrup. Reginald Hyatt,Wilbur Newman, Alice Walker, Margaret Unland. Clarence Talley, and D. G. Miller. In our Freshman year, we are sorry tosay,we lost fiveclass members. D. G. Miller, Edgar Ham, Glen Robinson, and Vera Seawalt moved away. Betty Gobel got in the line of fire of Mr. Cupid's arrow. In 1948 we returned to school in September and when count was taken we found that we had lost three more class mates. Margaret Unland and Alice Walker got married. Clarence Talley moved away. We found a new face--Mary Browning in our class that year too. We became up-and-coming Juniors in 1949, much to our surprise! We felt very proud to be known as the upper classmen . During this year we lost three students. Wilbur Newman and Raymond Ransom got tired of the old intellectual institute and Lila Nunn dropped out to be married. This year we were kept on our toes with the annual banquet and dance along with our studies. The theme for our banquet and dance was Starlight . We received our class rings shortly after Christmas and were well satisfied with our choice. Those answering to the roster in 1950-'51 are: Ruth Berghaus. Mary Browning, Ted Dickman, Beverly Gregory, Theda Hobbs, Alene Hulett, Reginald Hyatt, Wanda McDannald, Daryle Nortrup, Pat Ruyle, Joseph Schlichting, Dick Simon. Wayne Tegeder, and Robert Werries. Our class play this year was Whoa, Auntie with every one of the members of the class participating. At the time of printing we have not decided on a class trip but have talked about various places to go. At the end of the school year of '51 we shall all regret that it is our last year of school in M. H.S.and will never forget the good times we have had in spite of our trying times of studies. — 1 1— denior CLm Witt We the class of 1951, of Meredosia Community High School, of the County of Morgan, and State of Illinois, being of sound mind and body after four strenuous years, do hereby make, publish, and declare this as our last and best will and testament; hereby revoking all former wills, bequests, and devices of whatever nature or form heretofore made by us. We, the Seniors, will to the faculty one case of HADACOL for the head- aches we've caused them in the last four years. To the Juniors we will our manners and dignity that we have shown around M. H. S. the past few months. To the Sophomores we leave our ability to skip classes and still graduate. We hope! To the Freshmen we will the bubble gum left under our seats in study hall and also the ability to have a good aim with paper wads. I, Robert Werries, will my good grades to anyone who needs them. I, Mary Browning, will my chunkiness to Velma Battefield. I, Dick Simon, leave before the teachers change their minds. I, Patricia Ruyle, will my red hair and freckles to Harlan Fueling. I, Ruth Berghaus, leave my bashfulness to Bonnie Ransom. I, Wayne Tegeder, will my ability to make New Year’s dates to Wayne Dickman. I, Ted Dickman, leave my ability to flirt to Billy Hulett. I, Theda Hobbs, will to Earline Thurmon the right to skip classes, throw paper wads, and argue with the teachers--unless she wants to graduate. I, Alene Hulett, will my ability as a snake charmer to Joanne Beuchamp. I, Wanda McDannald, leave the Big Elm Tree to any gal who likes it. Especially to Beulah Floyd. I, Beverly Gregory, leave my ability as a good girl to Joyce Wortman. I, Bud Hyatt, will my ability to pick locks and my perfect attendance to Layton Yeakel. I, Daryle Nortrup, will my basketball ability to Johnnie Miller. % •Senior C ia56 f- ropli ropnecy I, Pat Ruyle, being a star gazer, crystal ball analyzer, fortune teller, and with an amazing gift of psychic powers, have been given the power by the Senior Class to prophesy the lives of those Seniors of the Class of '51. The Senior Class decided to appoint a person to prophesy their lives after they left old M. H. S. and I was the lucky one. In the following para- graphs you will find out about them and what they are doing: As I went up to New York this summer I went to call upon an old class- mate of mine, Miss Wanda McDannald, but up to date is Mrs. Billy Joe Smith. Wanda's ambition was to be a secretary. She fullfilled her ambition by working as a secretary to Mr. Christofer Waterbottom. She leaves the 5 little Smith's in a nursery during the time she is working. As I was walking along that afternoon I came upon a factory which had the name Dick Simon's Sewing Factory. I recalled the name in my school days so I decided to go in and pay him a visit. I found out that he had in- vented the all-famous, non stop (sometimes never start) sewing machine which the factory installed immediately. I learned from Dick that Miss Theda Hobbs otherwise known as Mrs. Roger Henderson, has moved down in the blue grass regions of Kentucky where they are raising thorough-breds. By that we mean they are raising thorough-bred Henderson's. Mrs. Alene McAllister otherwise known as Miss Alene Hulett is now working on the Musselfork Bottom Police Force. Since her husband was in the army Alene thought she would pass her time by working as a police woman. We heard that Alene has caught 10 dangerous criminals and is after another one by the name of Rubber Neck. Good luck in catching him Alene. Ruth Berghaus ambition was to be a secretary but it looks as though things reversed on her. She is now an actress. She works 17 hours a day at it and has waited 20 years for a talent scout from Hollywood to give her a chance at Monogram Studios. She says her greatest ambition is to play opposite the Dead End Kids. Miss Beverly Gregory is now working as a secretary in New York for Mr. Longneck who is paying her a sum of $100 a week. Miss Gregory said she would not marry Buddy Hyatt until he makes good. He is now working as a shoe shine boy. Better get busy Buddy. Mr. Buddy Hyatt works as a shoe shine boy on the corner of 4th. and Grand. He makes about $3 a day. When he hasn't any business he taps dance and sings for the people and makes a few odd pennies there. He said he was saving his money to marry Dode and nofc has exactly $21.99. He has been working for 2 years. Ted Dickman is now singing with the Harry James band. He is their star vocalist. He made a recent singing debute in New York and 30 girls fainted. Keep up the good work Ted. Miss Mary Browning, a torch singer of the Stork Club has reached high fame. After playing the Bearded Lady with Ringling Bros, for 10 years, she decided to go into the big time. The last we heard was the Stork Club was about to fold up because Mary forgot to shave. Wayne Tegeder is now the owner of the Stork Club in New York. He makes close to a $1,000 a night and more on Saturday's and Sundays. He is planning to get married in the future. Lucky Girl! Daryle Nortrup is now a traveling Fuller Brush Man. He spends most of his time down in the warm country's. Daryle's chief ambitions are horses and women. Recently Daryle bet on Girdle in the Stretch and won himself 500 pairs of garters. Robert Werries is now the owner of the east-half of Texas. His hobby is singing over T.V. to the little cow-hands all over the U.S. who are members of the Bob Werries Earn-An-Honest-Nickel Club. Bob and his horse Shuffle On are rated the nations tops in cowboy entertainers. Rogers and Autry please note--------- Pat Ruyle is now the designer of gowns for the movie stars. She attended the Stork Club in a black gown with a large peacock on it. The price of it was said to be $400. She was last seen leaving by the back door having spied an agent from the Local Loan Company. We wondered who owned the dress anyway? As a whole it looks as though things have changed since our Meredosia High School days. Same old gang raising all kinds of ned . A. A. The Girls Athletic Association has as its leaders Gwendolyn Tegeder, who served in the capacity of president; Erna Lee Staake, vice-president; and Barbara Yeakel, secretary-treasurer. The first event of .the year was a hike. All of the members and their guests assembled at the high school and then hiked to the beach. Upon arriving a weiner roast and campfire meeting was held. During the basket ball season the G. A. A. served for a few of the games. Those games served were the Chambersburg-Meredosia game and the Perry- Meredosia games. Hotdogs, fudge, soft drinks, and candy bars were served and besides bolstering the depleted treasury it gave them the much needed exercise. The advisor for the G. A. A. was Miss Charlotte Persigehl. GIRLS PHYSICAL EDUCATION The girls' physical education classes enjoyed a variety of sports. Each girl showed her ability in playing softball to their instructor early in the season. Following the softball season they played kick-ball. This is a miniature way of playing football. Many fast muscles became dislocated during this type of game. Indoor sports included basketball and vollyball. As the year is drawing to a close the crack of the softball bat announced the whereabouts of the P.E. dept, in the great outdoors. Old Man Winter finally tossed back his blanket of snow to allow the hop-scotch players and softball players to train for top performance. The girls Phys. Ed. instructor was Miss Charlotte Persigehl. •i m iSIg a ■ CALENDAR OF EVENTS SEPTEMBER 4 On this beautiful day in September Dosh Hi is once again a place of enthusiastic activity. We find We are reminded even now Of the memories left behind. Of our friends and teachers who, Though, without co-operation Worked for four years to help prepare Us for future occupation. With tear filled eyes we all recall Our childish pranks and then We start to laugh, but remember they are gone And our eyes fill once again. It's so very hard in words to say ”Farewell” to things you loved so And your classmates part at the door But plan to meet on the road to success With fond memories evermore.
