With SticJcy Business as their Com- husl in ' theme, the Fresh- men led by Karry McMillin and Leslie Swain began a week filled with late night wa- ter fights, secretive practices, and alliances with their Big Sisters. The Freshmen posted their first Cornhuskin ' victory by winning the Spirit Award. Before Thanksgiving the daisy sale was held to raise funds for the Freshman Sophomore Spring Dance held at the Royal Villa on April 7. Their Stunt perfor- mance made everyone recall their first fraternity party. Af- ter the excitement and run of this year, the Freshmen are lookmg forward to greater things during the remainder of their Meredith careers. Plenty of things, that ' s what!! This year was packed with new and ex- citing experiences — self de- termining hours, the Mediev- al Festival, Class Day, and numerous fund raisers that show the spirit of the Class of ' 86. And oh! what songs, what performers, what fun Cornhuskin ' ' 83 was! The Sophomores were really ' wheeling and dealing ' their way through the festivities and into the wee hours of the morning at Zack ' s. The Soph- omores sold Christmas Dance glasses which added a classy touch to a great evening. Sad- ly we say farewell to our big sisters, remembering what a special year it has been. Our faculty advi- sors, Debra McGuire and Ber- nard Cochran, added spice to the class meetings as well as good advice. The Class had several fundraisers. They in- cluded selling Cornhuskin ' buttons and Meredith bug- gers, sponsoring Cloisonne jewelry and the Air Guitar Night and class dues. With the support and dedication of Rhett and Tammy at Corn- huskin ' , we placed second. A second place finish at Stunt was also a highlight due to Maria and Mary. With the cre- ative work of Nancy Bean we E laced first in the Medieval anner competition. The Gradford Graobers and the Kazoo Band added to a suc- cessful year. Getting class rings, becoming Big Sisters and being a part of the Junior Senior were very special to us. This year was filled with more wonderful memories and more thoughts of gradua- tion. The Big Sis- Little Sister tradition at Mere- dith is one well worth having. It ' s the beginning of life long friendships and very special memories. Our Little Siste class was larger than usual, so many of us were fortunate enough to have two, three, or even more little sisters. At the beginning of the year, we welcomed our little sisters with an ice cream party at the lake. Cornhuskin ' helped these relationships to grow as we shared a week of spirit and support. Rings! Rings! White gold? Yellow gold? 14 Karat? 10 Karat? Which fin- ger? Decisions! Decisions ! Why so many? The tradihon- al Meredith class ring, a black onyx oval engraved with the school seal and Oak Leaves, symbolizes a great deal of h ' ardwork and effort and therefore is worn with great pride. It has to be perfect. A great deal of patience is re- quired on the part of all Juniors as they anxiously await the arrival of their class rings. Rings, the symbol of Meredith col- lege. The excitement of being upperclassmen, the class spirit, our little sisters, the good food and funny cos- tumes added another special memory for the Juniors. Our shoes certainly fit when it came to our songs to the tunes of the Wizard ofOz which won this competition. Hog calling centered on the discussion of foot phobias and an odor eat- er was our tail tale. We may not have won this year, but look Cornhuskin ' ' ' 84, the Class of ' 85 will make its pres- ence known. Zan tells the trials and tribulations of being an odor eater. Against many tough teams, such as Chowan, Louisburg, and Atlantic Christian, Mere- dith never let anyone take advantage of them. Most of their games were extremely close, some going into extra innings, which proves that they didn ' t give up until the final out was made. The team ' s MVP award went to Jil Humberger, who also captured the highest bat- ting honors with a .387 aver- age on the year. The Golden Glove award went to Teresa McMaster, whose fielding av- erage was .942 for the year. Tnis year ' s team was a young team consisting of 8 ' freshmen.
