IN GRATEFUL APPRECIATION Having been at Meredith only since 1971, she has already earned a permanent place in the hearts of students, faculty, and administration alike. Beginning as a physical education instructor, this dedicated and concerned young woman soon extended her vast energy and talents to all areas of student activity. She currently holds the title of Director of Student Activities, while still retaining some PE classes. Having earned her BS and Masters degrees in Physical Education, she is personally interested in all of Meredith ' s many athletic activities. She is also a member of several professional organizations and is active in many athletic activities throughout the state and the southeast. As one of her many duties as Director of Student Activities, she serves as a second advisor to all campus clubs, helping officers over financial hurdles as well as offering needed advice on myriads of club problems, both large and small. She has introduced several welcome changes in policy and especially in attitudes at Meredith. This one interested and energetic young woman has done much to close the gap between students and the administration, earning the respect and admiration of all who have the opportunity to work with her. She has recently conducted an assertive training workshop over several weeks for interested Meredith faculty. One of the main problems focused on in these meetings was the means for the teacher ' s arousal of student interest and participation in class and campus activities. Throughout her years at Meredith, she has emphasized the importance of student- conducted activities and programs. Personally, her warmth and listening ear have been greatly appreciated by many Meredith students, who think of her not only as an excellent teacher, a thoughtful advisor, and an energetic helper, but also as a loved and trusted friend. In grateful appreciation for her past influence on and for her continued leadership and support of the whole Meredith community, we proudly dedicate this 1975 Oak Leaves to Mrs. Frances Vandiver.
