I feel a woman must find what she believes in and stand by it and take an active part in doing those things she enjoys and be- lieves in. Micliele Lee, Junior Being a woman, I would say, in- volves the opportunity of pur- suing the quest for developing one ' s fullest potential as a woman, free from parental, insti- tutional, and male restraints on that development, and free to pursue academic, personal, and social goals. I would say to each Meredith student, Woman, be somebody! S 7ra i McCulloh Lemmon On our way to becomming women many other people have served as examples and helped us realize our full potential. At Meredith College one of these helping people is particularly outstanding. She has helped to raise our consciousness of being women. Named Woman of the Year of the city of Raleigh in 1972, she has introduced a special course at Meredith on women ' s history. She has stimulated our scholarship. She seeks out excellence in her students by refusing to accept from us anything but our best. As a published author who is well respected in historical circles, she serves as an example to us. But above all she has aided our self-discovery with her love. She always has a cheery hello for us and is never too busy to talk with a student. Her office door is continuously open for a girl with a prob- lem or to anyone who feels like talking. We thank her for helping us to become the women we are, and widi trratitude dedicate the 1974 OAK LEAVES to Dr. Sarah McCulloh Lemmon.
