She has completed twenty-four hours in her major field and now full of plans and tired of study she has decided that . . . there are more important things to do than study. She enjoys ... the feeling of superi- ority, unlimited cuts and week-ends, a car — even if it envolves a mile hike, the monthly issues of Modern Bride, living in the luxury of Poteat with it ' s scent of RAID always near, watching all the under classmen on their way to P.E. classes, being able always to find three others who know how to play bridge, looking forward as well as backward. A senior marks off . . . blind dates, summer jobs, the last letter to home asking for money, knee socks and loafers, her last dorm card, bluebooks and cramming, counting the thirty-five miles, her seven-hundred and fiftieth chapel program, riding the city buses. A Senior can be seen . . . with the want-ad section in one hand and an application in the other, knitting while she is engrossed in Peyton Place, proudly polishing the rock on her left hand, with a worried frown on her face as she counts up those Q.P. ' s, visiting in the Bee-Hive over a cup of coffee and a cigarette . A Senior smiles because . . . practice teaching is over, she is on this side of four years of college, the amphitheater provided a unique dating area throughout her Senior year, her days in the Brewer House are over, that long awaited recital is in the past, her afternoons are no longer consumed with labs and educa- tion projects, her art exhibit is finis. A Senior gets a lump in her throat when she . . . sings her Alma Mater for the last time, receives her first alumnae bulletin, says good- bye instead of see you next year, packs her car for the last time, and realizes it is the end. 34 OFFICERS: Nancy Armstrong Cook, Secretary; Martha Plyer, Vice President; Mary Ann Britt, Treasurer. Being the only campus-centered de- nominational group, the Meredith BSU oper- ates under the guidance of an executive committee, director, faculty and pastor ad- visers. Membership is voluntary and all BSU activities are open to the entire student body. Hopefully, by becoming involved with the BSU, a student may enter into those areas which she feels are necessary to complete a well-rounded college life. Baptist Student Union BSU COUNCIL: Marshall Moore, Vice-President; Bonnie Noel, Secretary; Willa Robinson, Treasurer. MCA — Christian experiences for a Christian outlook on life is the responsibility of the Meredith Christian Association. This associa- tion with an executive committee made up of representatives from all denominations on campus gives to the community a well-rounded schedule of events during the school year. Besides daily vespers and forums, the MCA sponsors reading and visitation programs at the State School for the blind, at the Doro- thea Dix Hospital, and the Raleigh Rescue Mission. The MCA encourages each girl to become acquainted with the Raleigh churches and move her membership to the church of her choice. The high spot in our Christmas festivities is the formal banquet held in the din- ing hall. The Meredith Ensemble traditionally pro- vides the best in holiday music with their own rendition of Christmas melodies. Later in the eve- ning buses take the Meredith angels to the homes of faculty and administration to sing carols. After caroling, individual hall parties are enjoyed by everyone. PLAY DAY. Held in the spring, this festive oc- casion includes everything from jack-rocks to bridge. Students in each dormitory compete with their neighbors for the Play Day trophy. Each dorm is responsible for a theme which is carried out in costumes and appropriate songs. A Duke, selected by the student body from the male mem- bers of our faculty, and a Dutchess, selected from the students, reign over the events. At the conclusion of this day a delicious picnic is served. ■=T«,titi-d 146 Playhouse stage hands Playhouse actresses Meredith Playhouse . . . budding actresses . . . scenery . . . props . . . practice, practice, practice . . . scrib- bling homework in wings . . . trips to Greensboro . . . plans for outdoor productions ...
