Happiness is seeing old friends after a summer of separation . . . slipping back into the old rou- tine ... it is the confidence of an upperclass- man . . . and the excitement of a freshman . . . a 10:0 0 date and a cup of coffee ... a full mail box. ... It is recognition for tasks well-done . . . ambitions achieved ... the satisfaction of realis- tic plans for the future beginning to unfold . . . a summer job. ... It is the exhilaration of a good time ... a hearty laugh . . . being with friends. ... It is the first time on the Dean ' s List ... a good exam schedule. . . . Yet happi- ness is more than this ... it is serving others . . . helping at Dix Hospital or the Blind School . . . the ability to listen — and sincerely care . . . happiness is love.

A year of contrast . . . This is our school. Four of the most significant years of our life are spent here. Four years of varying activities, accomplishments, and emotions. We have times of happiness, times of sadness, occasional times of turmoil, and blessedly, there are times of con- tentment. We learn about life through living, living enriched by the knowledge and example of our professors. Hopefully, we will become the leaders of tomorrow. That vision, however dim it may sometimes be, gives us courage, courage to be ourselves — the student body of Meredith College.
