Senior Class History Here we are — a few less in numbers than wc were four years ago — but full of new experiences — and even somewhat wiser! Our freshman year . . . will we ever forget those first classes and our feeble, yet hopeful attempts to follow rigid study schedules? or those two slim evening privileges we scrambled to fill with blind dates (and chap- erones!) or the night before we went home for our first week end. when we packed everything we had and somehow managed to use i t all? or the dining hall bell that rang at odd intervals during the night before Christ- mas holidays? or our first college exam week: notecards in the breakfast line, notecards under our pillows, notecards in every pocket! Somehow we survived all the newness of it, for we had each other and we had made close friends. Summer passed quickly and we faced our second year at Meredith, full of determination and resolutions (which consisted largely of new study schedules, and forty dollars worth of textbooks). We were now into the swing of studying and were even beginning to see some connection between our courses. Can we ever forget Stunt Night and our exhilaration? The dining hall bell clanged louder than ever that night, and bathtubs carried a tell-tale yellow make-up stain for months ! We saw our big sisters graduate with mixed emotions: a little sad at seeing them go, but happy too for realizing that we were one more step up the ladder. Our junior year gave us unlimited privileges we somehow never found time to use, for spare hours were now spent working in labs and in the libraries — we were now in our major fields. Colorama won for us the Stunt trophy for keeps and later there was the excitement of putting on the Junior-Senior. With spring elections came the realization that we were Almost Seniors. Somehow we had never expected time to pass so quickly. That fall brought many changes: the new face on Johnson Hall (will we ever forget the steps where we used to sit and wait for the bus or where we had seen our big sisters form their class numerals?), the new Joyner Hall (modernly beautiful, but won ' t we always remember a little warmly our three years of classes in the old arts building?), and a new senior class — us. The Corn Husking Bee, Stunt, Christmas Caroling, May Day, and even exams, were each accompanied by the thought This is our last — let ' s make the most of it . . . we did. Meredith has given much to us. Not smugly, but a little proudly, we be- lieve that we have given something of ourselves to her: our loyalities, our dreams, and the enthusiasm of our youth. Somehow, we do not feel it was a poor exchange.
