She is tough: for she knows we need to be tough. Demanding, just as an army general would be. Guiding us through Mercy like a mother guides her children through life. Her eyes are poor, but she can see into the hearts of others. She constantly pushes us to better ourselves. If prepared for a task, she can make you feel proud, if not prepared, then you easi ly cry. An instructor who loves and cares more than we sometimes realize. She is an inspiration towards the growth of knowledge. She is the foundation of Mercy ...... 'WUT When you get what you want in your struggle for self And the world makes you Queen for a day, Then go to the mirror and look at yourself And see what the girl has to say. For it isn't your mother, your father, or husband Whose judgement on you must pass, The person whose verdict counts most in your life Is the girl staring back from the glass. She's the person to please, never mind all the rest, For she is with you clear to the end, And you've passed your most dangerous and difficult test If the girl in the glass is your friend. You may be like lack Horner and chisel a plum And think you are a wonderful girl, But the girl in the glass says you are a bum If you can't look her straight in the eye. You may fool the wide world down the pathway of years And get pats on the back as you pass, But the final regard will be headaches and tears If you've cheated the girl in the glass. Anonymous 27 At Mercy I was taught the techni- cal skills of a nurse. I was taught the knowledge of others through lectures and books. Yet this was only part of what I learned. MERCY-A Molder of Character It began in August 1981 I was young and carefree, innocent to life's burdens. Soon, I learned to open my eyes and see what life was all about. I saw pain. I saw happiness. I learned to care about and understand others, I learned to appreciate life's preciousness. I realized the importance of my family. I became wiser. It ended in Iune, 1984. There was an empty place in my heart. In the years to come, I knew I'd remember Mercy and it's philosophy, my friends, and the instructors. I would remember how Mercy helped to Mold My Character! Let me be there in your morning Let me be there in your night. Let me change whatever's wrong, and make it right. Let me take you through that wonderland, That only two can share. I Love You No words can truly express this glorious emotion known as Love, but have you ever considered how ironic it is That it is expressed best by three simple words? We often think of love as being something complicated . Or strange, yet it is the one most beautiful thing - IP VE That we possess. Love is not costly, yet in this materialistic my gg world it is valued most highly. Neither is it scarce, so why is it so sought after? Because ye It is the one thing that when we give it away we Give a part of ourselves through it. With love there are no frills, no extras, nothing to pick out p - 4' of it to talk about-that's why we can't express it well. Y I .14 N ggh .. We often think of our ancestors as being less intelligent than ourselves, yet they too realized that love is simple, not complicated, and that there is no need to try to make it so. Someone many, many years ago Realized that love is nothing more than two persons Connected by one emotion, I-LOVE-YOU! No, that's not complicated, or unique. . .but it is true I do Love You! To Tina, I leave the remains of our yearbook kit and prayers! I leave to Kelly my hopes that her Senior year will be a blast, and to Lucia-silence-in the absence of my country music! I leave Mercy with priceless memories, laughter, and tears. Finally, I leave to my fellow classmates my home address and the threat of bodily harm if they don't all stay in touch . . . for I have come to love them dearly. I, MELINDA CLARK, of feeble mind and hyperactive body leave my R.A. position to whomever can take the pressure of staying in the dorm on the weekend and to Selena Calloway I leave my big brown bookcase which I feel sure she'll need. I, NANCY DCBBINS, being of sound mind and tired body do hereby leave to Kelly Rhead any food that I have left in my room and in the refrigerator so that she will not go hungry her senior year. To another buddy Tina, I leave the privilege of answering the phone everytime it rings at any hour of the day or night. To all the other lucky soles who have time left on third floor, I leave all of the mandatory hall meet- ings that we always got stuck with. To all of the instructors at Mercy School of Nursing, I leave my thanks and appreciation because the bunch of you have made my goal in life attainable. Thank you! I, PHRONISSA P. HAMILTON, do hereby leave the following: to Deborah Dawson, I leave one last night to brighten her day-thanks for everything and may God bless you always. To Lynn Garbrick, I leave best wishes and a big thanks for her support and patience. To Teresa Alley I leave warm memories, late nights and early mornings, my love for Mama Moore, and the very best of my Mercy days. I, CATHY STELLA HAMMETT, being of sound mind and body do hereby bequeath to Mercy School of Nursing a great appreciation for the knowledge l've gained. I leave to the instructors a big THANKS. To Nappy I leave an empty room across from hers in hopes she'll get a new neighbor just as nice as I was- hopefully she will like rock instead of country. I leave Kelly and Tina the loudest end of the hall hoping they'll continue the uproar. To Sam and Dawn I hand over the Social Club-have fun! To Cheryl I leave a warm thanks for listening. To Iackie and Sonja I leave my Wednesday night spot at the Palomino. And to the rest of Mercy, I leave this thought, Study a lot, play some and be your best. Good Bye. I, KRISTINE LESKANIC, being of sound mind and body???? leave to my across the hall neighbor Nappy, my cream and sugar for her coffee towards those long nights ahead. I leave to Amy, Ieanine, Kathleen and Lucia my encounters with Father Brown, I leave my seat warmed in the T.V. room for Dallas on Friday nights to whoever wishes to stay in on Friday nights and to Mercy I leave a last farewell with the greatest thanks and appreciation. I, KATHY PRESSON CK.P.J, being of crazy mind and debilitated body bequeath to Kristine, Robin and Ionna my ability to go to Dixie every Tuesday night and to make it to clinical the next day at 0645. Also I leave to Rebecca my ability to stay up late studying at night because she'll need it when she's a junior. Last but not least, I leave Mercy with sadness because I'll miss all the good friends I have here, but I also leave Mercy knowing I have gotten a good sound background in nursing and I owe it all to the good instructors which are here. I, CANDY MICHELLE RHYNE, being of filled mind and too much body do write this last will and testa- ment with a very tired hand and a sadness in my heart. I leave Mercy with 13 new sisters, alot of new friends and most of all with the assurance that I have just had the three best years of my life . . . I have memories that I will cherish forever, an education comparable to none, and a very promising future as a nurse. I leave to Tina, Sam and Amy the key to the annual room which smells of chocolate. I leave the yearbook checking account to next years business manager and hope she has as much fun raising S2000 as we did. I leave to Kelly my intuition to know when all fire drills are and my ability to be the first person downstairs when the alarm goes off. To Mrs. Moore I say thanks for making me one of the few, the proud, the survivors of Mercy. And to Drew I say a great big Thank You for always being there to support, to give of yourself, to care about us and to listen to all my problems no matter how busy you were. I love you Mercy! I, IOY DENISE RICHARDSON, do hereby leave the following: Thanks and appreciation to a wonderful per- son and true friend, who always made time to listen and act as my sounding board for all those times I needed to sound off, for standing by when things got rough and for managing the SGA money without any problems, I wish you luck next year in whatever role you assure. Strength, courage, and endurance to make it through your final year at The Mercy . God bless you, Teresa Alley. To my flower child freshman- Deborah Dawson, thanks for never getting mad and always understanding and sharing our special secrets and long talks. I hope your days at The Mercy are what you want them to be. To Barbara Holliday, words can't say how helpful you have been to me. You were always there to hear me out, I now know, thanks to you, that it is okay to be disorganized and behind 'cause it all works out . . . eventually. I, LINDA DIANE SCHOLTZ, being of drained mind and overworked body due to three hard years of nursing school, do hereby leave to my bestest buddy Kelly Rhead my ability to BTS along with all the memories we've shared, knowing that they won't end here.
