They come in assorted sizes, heights, and shapes, but they have the same creedg to enjoy every second of every day off duty. i Student nurses are found everywhere: underneath, jumping from, swimming to, and running through. Patients love them, Fi.N.'s boss them, orderlies ignore them, Doctors tolerate them, and Heaven protects them. A Student Nurse is: truth, with blood' on her uniform, beauty with gloves on her hands, wisdom with penicillin in her hair, and the future with a newborn in her arms. To Doctors, a Student nurse is an inconsiderate, questioning, and intruding bundle of noise. When you want her to make a good impression, she becomes. a giggling creature, bent on wasting as much time as possible and sleeping through class. ' . f 5 A student nurse has the appetite of a horse, the digestion of a disposal unit, the energy of a soapsuds enema, the lungs of a switchboard operator,.and the imagination of a Vanderbilt Graduate, the enthusiasm of Central Supply, the sharpness of a scapel, the audacity of a Nurse's Aide, and when she gives pills she has five thumbs on each hand. She likes food, vacation, and Christmas. You can put her on study hours, but you cannot make her study. She is your aide, your maid, your porter, your friend. She is a freckled face, pint-sized, fun- loving bundle of noise. But when she gets off duty with her tired feet and ach- ing back, she has a funny way of dropping off into bed and saying Good Night, but not without those famous last words, Check on me in the A.M. At night when we got back - she'd once again make her rounds. Many nights she came into our rooms and told her day's events, said goodnight, pulled our covers up to our chins, turned off the lights, and closed the door behind her. A precious virtue of Ross, kind, loving - always giving - yet never taking. 4 wg 5 f , 6 We met Ross Pryor August 14, 1978. A Monday morning, for the first time. A big smile and messed up hair. From here, there were many happy and sad moments. . . There are no words to describe the feelings we all have for Ross. We love her as a friend, a student and as a per- son. The pain is hard to face yet we must all get over it. lt'll take time and life will go on. It won't be the same, as life continues the sadness will fade - but still there's no forgetting. We'll carry thru life the short time we shared and all the beautiful memories. We'll remember Ross the way she would want us to Carefree, Loving and Happy. I .f 1 74'- 9'-in X iv ' Wh. P44-n-um-. Mrs. Scofield taught us most of that year, i She helped to relieve some anxiety and fear. V ,tax . .ge We worked with Mrs. Elkins on 3-north and four, .liQa, 23: 1 . 'U '1.. Our trips to C.P. in knee deepsnow, Was the only excuse we needed not to go. e 1' Geriatrics with Mom at Wessley was strange, By the end of this year we had already changed. Now our junior year with stripes of red, We wore them proudly upon our head. The Juniorsiump that we wentth rough, The night before every care plan was due. Our Junior instructors with their words of praise, Helped us through this troublesome phase. The CHF paper nearly droveus schizo, But when we got into psych, we knew that wasn't so. Working with crazies at times was tough, And by the end of the year, we'd had enough. And our senior year with bands of blue, We thought there was nothing we couldn't do. Working specialty areas was a new game, And we found that all nursing isn't the same. Team-leading was a breeze -then critical care, And we wanted so bad our objectives to share. We learned to birth babies and care for mothers too, And learned that delivery wasn't easy to do. The study questions in Peds were a great review, And working with children was something new. Our senior instructors expected a lot, But most of what they expected, we'd already forgot. As the day approaches to get our black, We gather our things and quickly pack. . . . . .
