MERCY Ofewoln scHooL or NURSING LIBRARY We, the student body of Mercy School of Nursing, Charlotte, North Carolina, do present the 1965 MERCILITE. What is progress? It is change, and like many other institutions, Mercy has Lmdergone many changes. The curriculum has changed tremendously, even in the past three years. Even though all of us are studying nursing, each year more and more subject material is introduced. Our faculty has increased to the largest ever known at Mercy. In order to be progressive, they have been doing postgraduate study so that they may teach the Mercy students the latest in nursing. Now we have clinical instructors in all areas of the hospital. They are there to guide us in becoming the best- a Mercy nurse. Even our uniforms have changed. Gone forever are the white single- piece uniforms. Mercy students now wear stripes and aprons. There is something new about our caps, also. Freshmen receive a cap upon entering training. Junior students wear a burgundy band and Seniors, royal blue. The capping ceremony is a thing of the past and in its stead, is the banding ceremony. We shall attempt to depict these changes in the MERCILITE through our theme, Progress Through Change. 3

A Dedication To: A dedicated woman-one who strives to help our lives take on mean- ing and fulfillment as if she were molding her own soul- A friend-one who through her kindness, understanding, and friend- ship, has given a part of herself to each of us- An educator-one who has worked our hearts out so subtly that now they are hers forever- A scholar-awoman who has dedicated her life to seeking the truth- In accordance with our theme Progress Through Change , we, the annual staff of the 1965 MERCILITE, do dedicate this annual to our director, Sister Mary Elizabeth, through whose persever- ance and guidance Mercy has truly experienced Progress Through Change. 4
