gn fem 01415122 It falls to my hand the privilege of writing of Pat Ciccolella who died of cancer of February 19, 1965. We, in hospital work, face death frequent- ly, but we face it differently when it affects someone close to us. Then too, we must stop and think when there is a special quality involved. Pat was and is very special. She knew her medical condition and faced surgery and therapies with an indom- itable spirit and will. Academically she was an honor roll student, and everyone she worked with recalls her superior nursing ability in the hospi- tal. A few remember the extraordi- nary influen ce she had on certain K M. . patients who had cancer, and who obtained their lift and positive attitude from Pat's encouragement. In her twenty years she lived a lifetime. Selflessness and loyalty walked with her together with pain and hope always encompassed by the circle of the Spirit of God. Truly of her are the Words from Brovsming's PROSPICE applied . . . For sudden the worst turns the best to the brave, The black minutes are end, And the elements rage, the fiend-voices that rave, Shall dwindle, shall blend, Shall change, shall become first a peace out of pain, Then a light, then thy breast, O thou soul of my soul! I shall clasp thee again, And with God be the rest! Excerpts reprinted with the permission of Sister Mary Elizabeth, R.S.M.
