The Bulldogs gave the McBride Micks a defeat, 44-42, in their second meet on February l4. After a second defeat over St. Mary's 54-50 and a sparkling 72-42 victory over Laboure, the Mercy Bulldogs ended this season's play in basketball with a tie for second place in the CAC and a fabu- lous three-year record of 24 victories and only six defeats. The co-captains of this year's squad were Bill Nordmann and Iohn Shelly, the only Sen- ior Varsity players. The little Bulldogs bit hard during the l957- 58 season finishing with a 10-8 record. Al- though they ended with a fourth place in the CAC this was the best year they have had. Mr. Walter Pfeiffer is the B-team coach. The baseball Bulldogs, under the coaching

At the Normandy Christmas lnvitational Tournament the Bulldogs pulled one of the major upsets of the year by defeating the unbeaten St. Charles' five, last year's State Champs 42-4l. The Bulldogs handed a defeat to DeAndreis in the first CAC game, 47-39. Two league de- feats followed by the powerful DuBourg and . . . af Were? McBride squads. ln the fourth league game, Coach Harvey StoCker's team edged the St. Mary's Dragons 52-45 and then trounced the Laboure Lions 47-30 on lanuary 24. The DeAndreis Tournament was short lived as was the Clayton State Regionals at the end of the season because we were defeated in the first games by McBride and Chaminade. The Bulldogs went on to edge DeAndreis 53-5U and trounce Central 53-48. Only four games have been played as this book goes to press leaving Mercy with a 2-2 record. The Bulldogs ended their first games in defeat to University City 5-2 but went on to trounce Wellston ll-l with 18 hits. Mercy handed McBride a 6-2 defeat in the first league contest. ln the second game with Wellston the Mercy boys lost 2-l. The track men began early in the spring under their new coaches, Mr. Walter Pfeiffer VARSITY CHEERLEADERS . Af Wm, and Mr. Harvey Stocker. As this book is going to press the squad has participated in only one meet. Mercy placed third in the triangular meet with Hazel- wood and Riverview. About six dual meets plus the Chaminade and CAC event are yet to be held. The Sports Roundup at Mercy would not be complete without commending the cheer- leaders on the fine job they did this year. They strove at all times to keep Mercy spirit and sportsmanship at its highest.
