cigpaorfd pounclula 'J The Mercy Bulldogs, coached by Mr. Bill Houston and Mr. Harvey Stocker, began foot- ball practice August l5 when perhaps most Mercy students were taking it easy in the hot summer sun. Every day the boys worked out to get themselves in condition and ready for the tough season ahead. The Varsity got off to a bad start Friday night, September l3, when they were trounced by a powerful Normandy squad, 36-U. Poor ball handling was the team's main weakness. . . . ,411 Wm, However, the Bulldogs beat Western Military September 28, l8-O, in the first home game. Although the team was defeated 7 to 6 by St. Louis University High, they can be proud of their spirit of fight against this always powerful team. Mercy opened league play in the Catholic Athletic Conference October l3 with a rousing 24-6 victory over DeAndreis. Sloofdaf fiom On the night of November 27, the cameras ot Channel MHS covered the highlight ot the Football Prom, the Coronation of the King and Queen, Bill Nordmann and Carole Barbieri. The entourage ot their majesties was composed ot representatives from the senior, junior, sophomore, and tresh- man divisions. The gaiety and testiveness of the occasion reached its climax, when, as the royal pair and their court descend- ed the throne stairs to lead loyal Mer- cians in the Coronation dance, a rain of blue and White football balloons drifted down upon them. As sign-off time came, all too soon for our Channel, the melodious retrain of Tenderly could be heard above the gay chatter and rustle ot dresses as the last dance drew to a close and became just a moment to remem- ber of our high school days.

Witte, Shelly. two league plays. On November 9, Mercy squeaked out a 12-7 victory over Laboure. DuBourg scored twice in the fourth period to defeat the Bulldogs October 20, 20-0. Bill Nordmann and Dewey Mundwiller, co- captains of this year's team, won berths on the second string of the CAC All-Conference team. The B-team football, coached by Mr. Walter Pfeiffer, tied for third place in the CAC with St. Mary's. Their final record for the season was two wins, one tie, and four losses. Before football season was over, basketball practice was in full swing with high hopes for another successful year despite Graduation of many key players.
