Father Lord, a man of great dexterity, was as capahle of Writing a hook as he was of composing a song. We, here at Mercy, know this hecause he is the author of our school song. Through this Work, Father Lord has given us a model from which We may pattern our student days: uVictories take them, comrades We,ll make them, deeply proudf, Although he died three years ago, his Works continue to exert an iuiluencc on the Catholic youth of America. Qing all N DECEMBER 11, the Seniors of 1956-57 received their Class Rings. It was an outstand- ing day for them in this, their last year at Mercy. A talk given by Father Ray- mond Rustige made them real- ize that their four years here were a preparation for the re- sponsibilities they will under- take upon graduation. He also brought out that the gold ring with its sparkling blue stone is a symbol of the goal they will be endeavoring to reach in the years to come. Each senior was called upon the stage and given his ring by Father Holland. A bright glow of satisfaction and happiness that comes with the fruitful accom- plishment of something Worth- while Was revealed by their ra- diant smiles as each received his ring. eniofz Q ay Hpgtage 007 77 Director: Reverend Raymond F. Rustige The Senior Play of 1957 was a real test of acting ability, the reason being that it presented acting-its trials, its attempts, and its triumphs-as the title indicates. Acting in a theater, as our gym was on the nights of the 5th and the 7th of May, gave to all- performers and audience alike- a feeling of intense pride. The former, because they themselves got up on a stage and acted, something that before would have been almost laughableg and the latter, because they were saying to themselves, That,s my friend, or thatls my classmate, or that's my studentf, The thrill of performing on stage is incomparable to many experiences, as the cast knows. These seniors were bitten by the acting bug and forever will feel its sting although sometimes it may become the merest of a tickle. C ay ay XVe set aside an important day. To lift our hearts to the Queen of May. To her our pledge ot love We hring, And honor the Mother of our King. Each student does his special part. To praise her us 11 work of art. To show that our heurts will never stray, YVe crown her in L1 loving way. Our May Queen-Miss Sauidra Sander and her escort-Toni Kessler UO, Mary, we crown Thee . . Buck Row: fleft to rightj Messrs. Selection and placement of pictures, typing of Writeups, and dertermining a theme and dedication make up some of the many facets of this publication. Through their ingenuity and workmanship, staff members are creating some- thing which will be worthy of praise from their fellow students now, and a treasure to them in the years to come. This year we have dedicated our book to Father Lord, and from his quotations, which have always been an inspiration to youth, we have taken our theme. Though Father Lord has received his merited reward, he will continue to influence-through his many literary accomplishments-the Catholic youth of America. 1957 MERCIAN STAFF Co-Moderators: Sister Mary Charity, R.S.M. As go the seniors, so goes the school,', is a saying which proved the tremendous spirit the Class of ,5 7 dis- played this year. As in years gone by, the seniors played an important part on football, basketball, baseball, and track teams. Senior representation on the C.A.C. All-Star Team, All-District Football Team, All District- Basketball Team, and State Basketball Team, helped bring honor to Mercy. The winning of five scholarships showed the aca- demic ability of the Class of '5 7. The Football Prom, May Day, Junior-Senior Prom, Ring Day, and Graduation Day will be cherished mem- ories to the seniors in the years to come. Pioneers in the planning of Ring Day and the first to graduate from Kiel Auditorium, this Senior Class has truly lived up to the Mercy tradition of a class to be praised and one of which we can be proud. 170.. N ome Uqsicle . . . and .qqest lvlzilevu eylfafzk 6:51 Perhaps the greatest honor hcstowed upon the Class of '57 was the privilege of heing the first class given the opportunity to make a closed retreat. The seniors found that the Cedar Hill retreat house, 'iVaugirardv-with its peacefulness and serenity-provided an atmosphere conducive to prayer as Well as relaxation. These three days of intimacy with Christ opened a store-house of abundant lmlessings and graces to Mercy seniors who heeded the Words of Father Lord, So before you have gone too far away from school and lost your contact with the priests or the religious who taught you, give yourself a final chance.
