SISTER JOAN DELAP PRINCIPAL Sister )oan Delap came to our school three years ago as a social studies teacher, and soon became school principal. Her abilities as an administrator have served her well. Beyond this. Sister possesses a rare capacity for understanding. The close relationship between students and faculty is in part due to the tireless effort of Sister joan. Having been a teacher herself, she can identify with the problems which face faculty members. Sister is also able to sympathize with students, smoothing out their difficulties. We, therefore, wish to ex- press our gratitude to Sister Joan for her unceasing enthusiasm to- wards Mercy High School. 15

SISTER MARY NAOMI ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL For six years Sister Mary Naomi has served as the assistant principal of Mercy High School. Her keen perception into the Mercy curricu- lum and activities has proved invaluable to both Sister loan and the school at large. Both co- operative and patient. Sister is always eager to be of assistance beyond her duties as assistant principal. Sister also manages to teach Latin. We hope that Sister Na- omi will continue her devoted service in the years to come. 14 Shelter Technology, Inc., 1029 William Floyd Parkway, Shirley, N.Y. 11967

And an astronomer said. Mas- ter, what of Time? And he answered: You would measure time the measureless and the immeasur- able. You would adjust your con- duct and even direct the course of your spirit according to hours and seasons. Of time you would make a stream upon whose bank you would sit and watch its flowing. Yet the timeless in you is aware of life's timelessness. And knows that yesterday is but today's memory and tomor- row is today's dream. And that that which sings and contemplates in you is still dwell- ing within the bounds of that first moment which scattered the stars into space. Who among you does not feel that his power to love is boundless? And yet who does not feel that very love, though boundless, en- compassed within the centre of his being, and moving not from love thought to love thought, nor from love deeds to other love deeds? But if in your thought you must measure time into seasons, let each season encircle all the other seasons, And let today embrace the past with remembrance and the future with longing. 16 Gibran
