 foreword Education, if rightly interpreted, brings knowledge and wisdom, which in turn lead to a strengthening and deepening of character. God has created us for one sole purpose, namely, to share the bliss of heaven with Him eternally, and it is, therefore, obvious that education of the mind alone is not sufficient to attain this goal. We must widen our horizons so as to include education and development of the soul. The necessity for this well-rounded and complete concept of education is beautifully realized by the Catholic Church. A Catholic education develops and strengthens the mind. It gives us a knowledge of the world, its peoples, our relations to them. It helps us to understand their actions and to see things from other viewpoints than our own, narrow personal ones. It helps us to understand ourselves, our own actions, our words, our hopes and aspirations.
