Zo wards Our Sternal Commencement — through knowledge of self through knowledge of Qod. “Cord ‘Jesus, let me know myself And let me know Zkee-, ft or may J desire anything exeept Zkee. ” (Prayer of St. Augustine) ! Misericordia 63704 presented by Nerheod Kret Library 330 Court StraiM Uti Senior Class of Mercy .High School foreword Education, if rightly interpreted, brings knowledge and wisdom, which in turn lead to a strengthening and deepening of character. God has created us for one sole purpose, namely, to share the bliss of heaven with Him eternally, and it is, therefore, obvious that education of the mind alone is not sufficient to attain this goal. We must widen our horizons so as to include education and development of the soul. The necessity for this well-rounded and complete concept of education is beautifully realized by the Catholic Church. A Catholic education develops and strengthens the mind. It gives us a knowledge of the world, its peoples, our relations to them. It helps us to understand their actions and to see things from other viewpoints than our own, narrow personal ones. It helps us to understand ourselves, our own actions, our words, our hopes and aspirations. A Catholic education trains and guides our souls so ma know odknowledge by our love for Hr - to merit heaven We, the class, wis1 and to benefi h?- Dedication In sincere appreciation and gratitude we, the first graduating class of Mercy High School, dedicate this initial issue of Misericordia” to Reverend Mother Mary Euphrasia, Superior of the Sisters of Mercy. Reverend Mother has exerted a truly tremendous effort in behalf of our Alma Mater, and it is due to her courageous faith and diligent work that the idea of a Catholic High School in Riverhead has at last become a reality. To Mother Mary Euphrasia we extend a sincere and heartfelt Thank you in our own behalf and in the name of all the students of Mercy High School. We are happy to have this opportunity of publicly ex- pressing our deep gratitude to her. HIS HOLINESS POPE JOHN XXIII HIS EXCELLENCY MOST REVEREND WALTER F.
