MERUEDIA Extra! Extral Read all about it in Mercy's periodic publication, the Mercedian. During '54-'55, the Mercedian staff, testing its theory that it pays to keep hep with the news, broke with its big story at unsuspected and opportune moments. In its seven pint-sized and three large econ- omy Mercedian, the staff, which is composed of junior and senior journalism students, sought to serve the student body by carrying out the school's motto of Religion, Loyalty, Scholar- ship, and Service. All this, of course, under the guiding hand of the staff's capable moderator, Sister Mary Bar- bara. Senior staff members include Margaret Carlson, editor-in-chief, Sharon Robertson and Margaret Lochbaum, make-up editors, Joan Ziol- kowski, and Janet Paradowski, circulation man- agers, Carol Eve Patten, business manager, Pat Vandenberg, chief typist, and Marlene Yahnke, artist. lll lllll'illl'l'llll 'l' CHORUS Music filled the air as Mercys combined concert this year teamed with the chorus from Don Bosco The chorus took part in many events at school including the Christmas pro gram they sang at St John s Cathedral Officers were Barbara Schubel president and Marne Divgak vice president The chorus was under the direction of Sister Mary Ven ardlne lAt rxghtl The A Capella chorus practices under the watchful eye of Sister Mary Benno Vi ORCHESTRA The orchestra, under the baton of Sister Mary Venardine assisted by Sister Mary Benno, provided the musical background for many of the programs at Mercy including the big play and the HSA Christmas Program The years activities were clumaxed by the annual spring concert Officers of the orchestra were Pat Szem borski president Pat Spychalla vice pres: dent CAt left!
