For seventeen years Sister Mary Vincenza taught in the departments of mathematics, science, and home management. Because of her protracted illness, Sister has been off duty for the past six years. Her inability to labor proved one of her greatest sufferings-one in which Mercy and Mercy girls received many an intention, for she loved both very much. l Cglster Tlffczry Goncfepta KUVIIU. If t Cblecf cgfzbruary 5, 1951, After a long illness, Sister Mary Concepta died at Mercy Hospital. Sister came to Mercy High when the school opened and taught in the English depart- ment before taking over the office of principal. During her term of office, Mercy realized many of its firsts as a high school. The Illinois State and North Central Association set their stamp of approval and Mercy became a high-ranking accredited high school. Sister was principal to the first graduating class in 1926, and in the same year saw Mercy Alumnae and Mercy Federation of Alumnae established as active organizations. The Mother's Club and the Mercy Athletic Association trace their history to the early years of her administration. Q ' In the growing school, Sister saw the need for school publications and initiated the yearbook, the Mercian, and the school paper, Mercy Hi Rays, then known as Mer-Mers. Q All these things that we accept as a part of our every day school life came into Mercy through the thoughtful planning and generous spirit of Sister Mary Concepta. Nothing was too hard for her to undertake to make ours the finest school for the finest girls-Sister firmly believed we were. It is a holy and wholesome thought to pray for the dead -especially when. in life, they worked so hard to make this a better world for us to live in.
