Eu ibm' Svrniura To you, our first Seniors, the Sisters of Mercy High School extend this message of appreciation and affection. Few indeed seem the months since, eager and decorous, you led the student body at the beautiful cere- mony in which our revered Cardinal dedicated this splendid edifice to the service of Catholic education. And now, as you stand almost at the en- trance of that new and larger world of action, with its entrancing vision so alluringly open before you, your Alma Mater, rejoicing with you in the fulfillment of your desires, yet regretful that some breaking of familiar ties must accompany this fulhllment, speeds your parting with a loving and fervent farewell. Varied as were the sources from which you came to us, through that unity of purpose which ever guides those who work for higher, nobler aims, you very soon became a happy united band stamped with good spirit and with true loyalty in class and at play. May the true friendships and loyalty to each other which have dis- tinguished your school days continue throughout your lives. May you be true always to the ideals of sincerity and fealty, and to a sublime trust in the guidance of God and his Blessed Mother which have been held before you. May all your years bring the fulfillment of your noblest and truest hopes. May Mercy's shield be your breastplate and may her motto, Auspice Maria, be your guide forever. Your Alma Mater prays that you may become all that God destines for you in whatever field of life you may be placed. Her heart shall ever warm to receive you, always rejoice in your success, always sympathize with you in sadness and sorrow. That you will be loyal to Alma Mater we feel certain, that you will keep ever close to her loving care we fondly trust, and that your lives may be brighter and better because of her in- fluence we pray. Upon the members of the faculty we bestow our deepest gratitude for all they have done for us during the time we have been under their care. To our chaplain, Father Hayes, we bequeath the guidance of the class of '27, our prayers, and the hope that he may spend many more years at Mercy. To Sister Mary Sebastian, who so heartily welcomed us to Mercy, we leave our sincerest love and the assurance that we shall ever cherish the fond memories of our first Mercy Mother. To our Principal, we leave our appreciation for the year of happiness which she has brought us through her untiring efforts. To the Juniors, we bequeath the use of our overcrowded lockers, pro- vided they keep them neat and orderly. We further bequeath to them the use of the history room, where they shall be able to see the world without traveling. To the Sophomores, We leave a partial use of the singing room from which they can throw their voices to the four corners of the earth with- out losing them. We also bequeath to them the pleasure of attending the Senior Prom, provided they learn the rudiments of dancing. To the shy and retiring freshies, craving exercise, we do especially bequeath our gymnasium periods and the sole privilege of using the show- ers after all the strenuous basketball games and dumbbell drills. To whom it may concern, we bequeath the piano in the middle locker room. No doubt, she who makes use of it will wonder many times at the vast amount of dancing space around the piano. To this Will and Testament, we do hereby place our hand and seal, this twelfth day of March, 1926. With such a beginning, in spite of the fact that we all possessed this unusual ability, we worked hard to make more firm our former reputation and to pave the way for greater achievements. And now we are Juniors. Our labor of the preceding year profited us well however, for all the school activities have Junior representatives in them. The class has maintained a good standard of scholarship: the Glee Club has claimed many of usg our class has made brilliant showings in the general assembliesg Catherine Corley was the winner in the High School World short story contestg our athletes have been chosen for many posi- tions on the teams. Now we are fast nearing a new portage and already the Seniors are willing to acknowledge us as worthy successors. A Nightmare I had a strange, strange dream last night, I seemed to be in a terrible plight, A huge green book was pursuing me, And the nearer it drew, the faster I'd flee. Then from out of its pages, a strange man did pace, Though his dress was queer, much queerer his face, One side turned up, the other side down, He seemed both to grin, and yet make a frown. This must be Milton, I said with a gasp, So great was my fear, I thought I'd collapse. Then I suddenly woke-cold sweat on my brow, No more of this Milton -I made this a vow. n D Fifty-six xg' A, , ,Q At ' y. , ,f-JJ s, '!' bf z, fgiherftef-CMS sf' - 5' C3-fig, QQ . x x, f N1 Qu Arrnaiir in fllirrrg Qigh M ay years of boundless fortune be your party Enriched by countless students may you beg Remeinbered, honored, loved by every hearty Cherished be the great lessons you impartg Your name be known to all posterity. We wish to announce the death of a very good friend, who by his squeaks and noise managed to distract the pupils of the laboratory during their very strenuous work. The guinea pig died very suddenly from the cold, on Wednesday, January 13, about 8 A. M. and was cremated by Mr. Smith that same day about 1 P. M. His coffin was very elaborate, being a towel from the laboratory. The mourners at the funeral were the Zoology pupils who felt so sorrowful that they were unable to work for the rest of the day. Wanted, another pet. The pig is dead! Long live the pig! Amhitinna I would love to be a traveler And sail the seven seas, Or perhaps a great zoologist, To study birds and bees. To be learned in mathematics. And be admired by man, Is a thing that I would love to do, To be considered grand. I would crave to do these wondrous things, There are many more, you see, But just now, to be a Senior, Would best of all suit me. For you know I'm just in second year, And have two long years ahead, 37 Before, 'fOh, she's a Senior, By others will be said. CLQ19 v 'N We W M l ff fi.-at Ennntrra We know our school is best And tell 'em so, And we'd have her lead the rest And help her grow, When there's anything to do Let them always count us, too, We'll feel good when it's through So boost we do. When we see a stranger from afar We tell him who we are, Never flatter, never bluff, Tell the truth and that's enough, Be a booster, that's the stuff. illreuhman lament Us poor little freshies Unhappy are we. Never doing right, Never being bright, Going in the wrong door Always on the wrong floor. Us poor little freshies! Unhappy a1'e we. Sing a song of freshmen Coming late to school Little shivers down our backs Goodness! we feel cool. Here we get a tardy slip- There we get a scoldin' We would love to talk right back But silence now is golden. SC'1f'CIlfj 5i.'L' M arf 'A Svaging Eli with Nampa One bright Muuflay morning Mary went Rowan on a Pond. After a few hours she tied the boat to a large Stone and went home to study about a Bard in Irish History. Later she went to the store and bought an Appel, sweet as Cain sugar, with the Coyne she had in her pocket. On the way home Mary passed some Mills in front of which grew a Bush. She also bought a paper which stated that there had been a Flood in Brazill and that two wily Lyons had been captured in Africa. liihnngit? Whoozit that's always eating candy and getting rather fat? Why, Mary Carolin is the girl, ,twas easy to guess that. Whoozit tried to reduce one day by eating just a bite '? But teacher made her finish her meal, it's Katherine I-'lood all right. Whoozit that loves the Nah so well she adds it to each word 'F Put the blame on Mary Crawford, she's the one I've heard. Whoozit pulls other peoples' scarfs even tho it makes 'em sad 'Z It's Catherine Pierce who does that, girls, now don't you think she's bad? Whoozit that finds these habits out, you knowqher very well, She's responsible for this terrible poem. Yes, it's Bernice Appel. A illittle Nigga!! The purpose of the club is to promote a social spirit in the Domes- tic Science department and to arouse enthusiasm in those subjects most closely related to the home. The meetings are held on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month. At these meetings ample opportunity is given to the girls to put into practice what they have learned in theory. Appointed groups pre- pare a breakfast, a luncheon, or a dinner at minimum cost and serve it to the other members of the club, who needless to say, enjoy it im- mensely. At the next meeting papers criticizing these meals from the standpoint of economy and minimum cost are read and discussed. OFFICERS LILLIAN PARKER ..... DOROTHY PHEE . LILLIAN LEACH . . . . . They stand out sharp and clear against the flat level of mediocrity. ln them are reflected always the genius, vision and artistic handi- work of a master Craftsman. Such things live and endure. They set, each in its own sphere, the stand- ards of excellence at which imita- tors aim. But leadership in ex- cellence is never attained through imitation. As the shadow but im- perfectly reflects the image of sub- stance, so the imitator copies only the form, not the essence of Qual- ity. Real Quality does not hold the lure of cheapness. Though neces- sarily of higher price it costs less in the end. It is by the policy of not how cheap, but how good that Quality lives. The Comptorneter School This same policy has dominated every step in the progressive development of the Comptorneter and of our schools. The Chicago school, which is one of one hundred and forty schools in the principal cities, is located at 29 S. LaSalle Street. The require- ments for admission are - two years or more of high school and over sixteen years of age. Felt 6'9 Tarrant Mfg. Co., Chicago, Ill. IT!
