In general, lhe main lunclion ol lhe Council is lo cooperale wilh lhe lacully in eslablishing line slandards in mallers perlaining lo lhe use ol lhe school building and properly as well as in all mallers ol general conducl. This year, under lhe direclion ol Mr. C. Charles Haines, lacully adviser, lhe Council opened a sludenl slore wilh lhe aims ol increasing school spiril and ol encouraging allendance al games. As in lhe pasl, lhe Council has been generous lhis year in lhe supporl ol worlhy school aclivilies. A generous sum ol money was conlribuled lo lhe lund lor lhe War Memorial which was unveiled lhis year in lhe school. The Biology Club received linancial assislance lrom lhe Council in purchasing shrubbery lo beauliiy lhe enlrance lo lhe school. The Council also sponsored lhe drive lo secure new uni- lorms lor lhe Drum and Bugle Corps. One ol lhe imporlanl dulies ol lhe Council is lo secure valuable and inleresl- ing assembly programs. Their work in lhis lield has been highly successlul lhis year. To add a gracious louch lo lhese occasions, lhe Council has presenled corsages lo lhe ladies who appeared on our programs, and small gills lo lhe genllemen. Two dances- were given during lhe school lerm by lhe Council. The lirsl was lhe Thanksgiving Dance, which marked lhe close ol lhe loolball season. The second was lhe May Prom where lhe May Queen was crowned. We are all very proud ol lhis organizalion which has a membership ol one hundred per cenl ol lhe sludenls ol Merchanlville l-ligh School.
