. 'KH HE Published By The Sennn Class HANIVH Sli HANTVIH JE Presenting A DAY Al M.H.S. We, The Class oT I947, presenT in This Record a Typical day in MerchanTville High School. Here are our adminisTraTors and advisers, our classmaTes and our Teachers, our class and exTra-curricular acTiviTies, our serious momenTs and our merry ones. As we Turn These pages, however, each one of us will call To mind a diTTerenT seT oT memories. Some aT us will behold in The picTure oT The maTh- emaTics class The scene oT our greaTesT scholasTic Triumphs. OThers will recall wiTh pleasure The day ThaT The characTers oT Dickens or Shakespeare leaped To vivid liTe in an English class. The sTudenT wiTh The giTT oT learning languages will linger over The picTures oT French and Spanish classes and perhaps remember wiTh pride ThaT TirsT real conver- saTion in a Toreign Tongue. For somewhere in The book is a class ThaT each oT us will silenTly claim as his TavoriTe. However, iT would be indeed a disappoinT- ing school day ThaT included only classes. As The bell signals The end aT The eighTh period, we rush OTT To our various acTiviTies. Here again our indi- vidual preferences are revealed as Those wiTh dramaTic abiliTy hurry To play Try-ouTs, while our aThleTes pracTice paTienTly wiTh The hope of win- ning The nexT game. From The audiTorium comes The sound oT The band wiTh all iTs glory oT brass and drums. And somewhere, surely, on This Typical day, several sTudenTs are busily explaining To an adviser oT The Record ThaT They musT aTTend a senior cabineT meeTing or a special rehearsal oT The Drum and Bugle Corps. Then, as our senior year draws To a close, we are summoned To school Tor The mosT imporTanT evening acTiviTy oT our high school careers-grad- uaTion. One by one our names are called, as The Class oT T947 receive Their diplomas. Moreover, we deeply appreciale all of Mr. Willard's elforls 'lo fill our school days wilh inleresling and enriching experiences. On many occasions when our problems seemed in urgenl need ol his allenlion, we have nal hesilaled 'ro coll upon him aller school hours, and we have even invaded 'rhe privacy of his home. We remember wilh gralilude 'rhal he has always found lime 'ro help us. ll is our earnesl wish as members ol lhe Class ol I947 lhal we may conlinue 'ro enioy lhe friendship of Mr. Willard as one of lhe many fine associalions lhal link us 'ro our Alma Maier. AIIMI ISTHMIO The adminisfrafion of 'the school sysiem of Merchanfville is rhe heavy respon- sibiliiy which resis upon Mr. J. Edgar Bishop, our supervising principal. The faculiy and 'rhe sfudenfs of ihe school know him as an inielligenr genlleman who handles fheir problems wifh direcfness, pafience, and humor. They are aware ihaf he pos- sesses +he broad vision necessary fo fhe execurive who musl carefully consider every decision because fha? decision affecrs a large numloer of people. IT represenTs all The English classes we have ever aTTended. MacbeTh and Shakespeare!
