Text from Pages 1 - 100 of the 1949 volume:

Meminisse 1949 Miss Keller began her teaching career in the llamilton 'l'ownship School, and then moved to the Warren Township School. For her third year of service in the field of education, she came to Mercersburg. ln her forty-three years of service here, Miss Keller taught in the grades and then moved into the high school. Many of the fondest memories that Mercersburg graduates have of their school days are associated with Miss Keller. Her charming personality, cheerful disposition, and willing helpful- ness have endeared her to her students and fellow teachers. She has set the goal that many students have striven for they made their way through life .... and also helped many new teachers get a good start in their chosen held. We salute you, Miss Keller, for the guidance and inspiration that you have given all your students, for through you, we have a better school which results in a better community. You have our most sincere thanks and all best wishes for many pleasant years of retired life. Page Seven BI Nleminisse 1949 r IN MEMGRIUM ANCIIIQ D. XY. YARDIEN 19410-120 lt! However, after the initiation by the Sophomores we were ready to take our part in school activities and sports. Since Room at could not accommodate sixty freshmen, some of us were assigned to Miss Varden's homeroom. Although thus separated, we united our class hy electing oflicers and holding regular homeroom meetings under the supervision of bliss McDowell. Viie gave our first assembly program this year. September-1916-and we are called Sophomores. This year we were divided into two separate sections-the Academic and the General, occupying the second floor of the high school. The Generals were under the guidance of Mr. Iloch while the Academics were under counsel of Mrs. Cooley. Through the influence of iXIrs. Cooley, the help of Miss Sheely, and the enthusiasm of the students our class initiated a school newspaper, The Bulletin . Our athletic ability shone forth this year, with three boys and two girls on the basketball teams. Other activities in which we participated were a Christmas cantata, May Day, and Spring Festival. l917f.Iuniors! At last we were together in Room 2-one class undivided. Under Miss Yarden's overlooking eye we prospered and became quite proud of our class, especially when those longed-for class rings arrived at Easter time. We worked diligently for the suc- cess of the .Junior-Senior banquet, which was made a gala affair with an Irish theme. We were happy to sponsor the largest banquet the school ever held. As upperclassmen we took part in the annual school play and also in the operetta, Rose of the Danube? 1918-Seniors-so soon? With Miss Iieller's patience and perseverance we maintained our dignity throughout the year. This, the busiest of our school years, was filled with many activities. A Student Council was organized and the publication of the Meminisse was continued. The Seniors captured the leading roles in Going on Seventeen', the school play. An operetta and May Day took some of our valuable time. Our class athletes domi- nated the teams which took high honors this yearg with the soccer team winning first place in the league and the basketball team winning second place. Now, these precious high- school days come to an end. And then-on to new endeavor! GENEVIEVE Bowixnw Page Thirty-four Meminisse 1949 llus Done Most l'or heliool .,,, ,.,.
