From out a vast expanse of clear blue sky And down the mountainside there moved a breeze Which passed the spire, the groves, the lawn And touched the tender, changing blooms of Spring. But all that's beauty has from beauty come, And deep-green leaves that grew in quietness Have stood the dazzling heat of noonday sun And cooled the thriving Summer earth with shade. Then transitory Fall! A season warm With streaks of mellow sun and golden light, With branches bare and shadows lengthening And leaves aground and hint of killing frost. The frosts and blustry threats developed soon To winter winds and softly falling snows That whiten bowing limbs and soaring spire Against a vast expanse of cold-grey sky. o Then Winter melted once again to Spring And time, as in the course of life, has marked The pictured moments of a crowded year. The passage of the seasons was fulfilled.
