' Arlene Williams Ruth Witter Donald Zeger .lunlor Class History It was September 7 1948 and we found ourselves back in school only this year we were freshmen and that was different To us being freshmen was just about the worst thing that could happen to anyone Our biggest fear was initiation day which proved to be fun for everyone Our confidence grew and under the super vision of Miss McDowell we presented as our assembly a declamation contest which was very successful We worked hard that year and with the help of our teachers we learned a lot md had fun too Then une came and even though we were anxious for our vaca tion we were also looking forward to being sophomores As sophomores we had Mr Malloy as a homeroom teacher but when school had hardly begun he was replaced by Mr Davis Our class took part in many extra curricular activities and many boys and girls went out for sports Sophomore stu t 'Ihc I'orest Prince We also sent thirteen of our group to Waynesboro to take part in the Franklin County Music Festival After many quizzes and a lot of fun we came to the end of another year but we were looking ahead to becoming juniors and raising the glory of our school to an even higher level Vue were juniors Upperclassmen at last' It seemed impossible We flung our sely es into our studies with our whole hearts in our work Our biggest project of the year was the unror Senior Banquet Wfe worked hard because we wanted to show the seniors a really wonderful time lt took lots of work but when March second came we were ready The food was wonderful ey eryone agreed The program com mittee had done a wonderful job of planning a fast moving ey enmg and the jmgles prouded a lot of laughs for all After the banquet we returned to school for our dance the perfect ending to a perfe t evening Our class seems to be musically inclined which was proven during the operetta Ermme ean XY agner playel the starring role with many other students taking leadmg roles ana chorus parts As in our sophomore year many of us again repre sented Mercersburg at the Niusic Festnal In the field of sports we were very active also Another big ew ent of the year was the junior Senior Play Home Sweet Homi cide We are now looking forward to filling the seniors cow eted shoes Rose Ann Wfassell Page 43 y Q U 0 O 0 7 1 . 4 ' 7 .
