In the past year .Mercer's student population took a 10% leap. This increase was one of the largest increases in the school's history Are there any specific reasons for this sudden In crease? Well, one reason could be the new engi- neering school. After three years of being in existence, it is really beginning to get on its feet. But, as well as the increase in engineering students, there has been a rise in the liberal arts school. What is the reason for its growth? The Admissions Office of Mercer University had some definite ideas about the new situation. Mer cer is gutckly becoming a force to be reckoned with. In the October issue of CI.S. News and World Reports, MG is listed as one of the lop schools in the country. We have a strong aca- demic staff, as well as a strong administration and Board of Trustees. For these reasons, Mer- cer is on the move In order to promote the college. Admissions has expanded their recruiting boundaries. In- stead of concentrating on Georgia and Florida, recruiters are going up north as far as Maryland, and out west as far as Texas. David Luckie, Director of Admissions, be- lieves the Increase in student population will continue if: 1. Quality recruiting continues. 2. the administration remains strong, and 3, there is a continuing effort to cultivate reasons for students to remain at Mercer As Mercerians sit back and survey their grow- ing numbers: pride should be taken in the fact that the University is growing stronger each year, The rise in the number of students is in- deed an indication that Mercer is a force to be reckoned with!!
