The approval by the Georgia Baptist Convention on November ifi, 1954, of the recommendations of the Education Commission created by and serving under that body presages a new era in Mercer’s histon,'. Those recommendations envision financial support adequate to provide for much needed housing, class- room, and recreational facilities on the campus. Approximately two million dollars was allocated by the Convention to Mercer University for such purposes. Since the Convention has specified that these funds must be matched by an equal amount raised from funds and alumni, Mercer University is embark- ing on a four million dollar program of improvements and expansion. Equally significant is the deter- mination of the faculty and the administration to raise the prestige of the institution by a continually improving program of instruction and a better organized curriculum. These advances are all directed toward one overarching purpose: the development of men and women in whom are to be found wise learning, unimpeachable integrity» and full loyalty to the Highest. G. B. Connell President
