1 D M I i I S It is my In in conviction ilmi (iciiij ii'i Baptists, Mu (ci alumni, and It tends have resources ample to furnish adequate support lor the Mercer of tomorrow. The im- mediate problem is to create die willingness on the pail ol these friends to provide these needed resources. This willingness depends basically on the importance our friends attach to Christian education and on their confi- dence in our institution. To merit this confidence we believe that we must continue to discharge three basic obligations. First, there must U- a continuing quest on the part ol the laculiv and admin is (ration lor latter methods ol instruction and lor a constantly improving quality ol education Second, we must remain steadfast to the purpose- ol die institution, stemming from tlie historic relationship ol the Georgia Baptist Convention T H A T I II to its oldest i loId. Since its Intituling Metiet has been dedicated to the purpose of giving emphasis to die inn da mental place of the Christian faith in education in formulating a Christian philosophy ol life, in developing Cluistian character, and in the establishment « 1 a Chris- tian social order, Third, ive must cuntinuc to send wor- thy sons and daughters forth from these halls into posi- tions ol leadership and influence in our denominational and community life. As we begin a new administration at Mercer we re- affirm our loyalty and redednate die institution to die high purposes on which our claims lor continuing con faience and loyally arc based. C. It. CONNELL, President 12
