He is mure than a guidepost: lie is a sort of good angel directing the young Hercules to an arduous upward climb» at tlie lop of which the prospect is wide and beautiful; sir he is sometimes a good Sa- maritan caring for the beaten and bruised freshman who fell into rough hands just a little way out of Jericho. For that reason the School of Fducation was established in 1920, to take its place along side the other professional schools. Mercer University has. through the years, been engaged in the training of teachers. It has contributed more than its proportion of educational leaders. The establishing of a distinct school has made possible tbr more adequate performance of a task which has been hers from the beginning.
