Dan Stewart gets ready to take a slap shot. Ice hockey, a new innovation to Mercer Island last year, was pursued by many individuals again this year. During the summer months a team was formed and practiced weekly to become the only high school with its own team in the Seattle area. Games between the different classes were closely fought down to the last period. One of the highlights ofthe year was over the Thanksgiving holidays. The old grads of '66 came back from college to challenge this year's seniors. The game, played in Bellevue, was a close hard-checking one with the alums beating the seniors ll-8. With planning and organization ice hockey shows possi- bility of becoming a regular intramural activity. Intramurals offers sports, hockey spirit grows Mr. Mills takes a shot in one of the championship games between the faculty. This year's intramural sports calendar included weight lifting, volleyball, badminton, table tennis, bowling and basketball. Both girls and boys partici- pated in most 'of the activities with Mr. Ed Maloof and Mrs. Lillian Zeigler advising. All the games were held after school and were limited to those not on any school team. This yearls bowling high series went to Ron Anderson and Linda White. And the Intramural Basketball Championship went to the 96 Frogs followed closely by the Golden Glorps. Dan Stewart and Bart Cannon try to block a shot by Dave Current. The many intramural bowlers watch as Bob Anderson tries for another strike.
