5 This year Mercer Girls and the Boys Service Club pre- sented their annual dance entitled Blackjack to the school. The head chairmen were Ruth Berry and Jeff Cook. The dance dress was informal which helped to compliment the casual atmosphere. February l8 found the mushroom transformed into an elegant gambling casino. The walls were decked with hun- dreds of black and red balloons along with many five foot playing cards. Giant dice hung from the ceiling adding to the theme of MBlackjack.77 A table was set at one end of the dance floor and couples were provided with roulette wheels, cards, dice, chips and several cash registers for their amusement in between dances. The Viceroys provided the mood music to help keep the dice rolling and people dancing. Refreshments were avail- able on the balcony, and they included punch and a varie- Lynn Siegel, John Cahill, Todd Hagstrom and Janet Young enjoyed the chips, dice and cash register which provided a different kind of entertain- I mgnt, balcony also provided cleverly decorated tables and chairs ty of cookies shaped in hearts, diamonds and spades. The where couples could sit and talk orjust relax. Cards, chips, dice create 'Blackj ack, for Dice swung in time to the music which was provided by the Viceroys. 112

Two ofthe canteen oflicers, Kathy Klopfenstein and Rick Hogan, looked over the list of bands to schedule for the canteens. John Michael and Margie Keating demonstrated their own version of a popular dance at the Soph Hop.
