During this exciting but rainy game the squad backed their team with spirit. The cheerleaders decided a change was needed in the routines of the Mercer Island traditional cheers. The girls added Pink Panther, The Stripper and Minnesota Rouser which helped to make a more effective half-time and pre- game show. Some of the cheers and songs made up during homecoming week were used periodically throughout the year. The summer preceeding the 1966-1967 year was a busy one for the squad. They spent many days practicing and perfecting cheers and songs to help promote more spirit in our school. At the end of August there was a conference held at Redmond High School for all the King-Co league cheerleaders and yell kings. This conference gave the squad a chance to get acquainted and learn new ideas. At the conference the staffs were divided into two groupsg one discussed pep and how to promote spirit while the other discussed the rules and regulations of the league.
