Enthusiasm, precision emphasize spirit Two organizations which strive to promote school spirit are the drill team and pep club. The pep club's activities this year included planning pep assemblies. organizing car caravans and making posters. They also sold buttons and small cards to raise the enthu- siasum and interest of the students before a game. An ex- change with the Bellevue pep club took place when the Bellevue officers invited the Islander officers to a before- game dessert where they discussed different ways to instill wpirit in each school. The pep club also put into effect the rep jug as it was presented to the winning class in competi- tion during each pep assembly for home games. The drill team provided half-time entertainment by marching in home football and basketball games, includ- ing one joint performance with the Lake Washington drill team at Lake Washington for the game against Mercer ls- land. The drill team's other activities included marching in the Seafair parades in the summer. A new addition to the team uniform was the white tams that were bought by each member of the team. The team also sponsored the annual dessert where the new squad and officers were pre- sented. The many members of the pep club show some of their enthusiasum as they peer ou-r the senior balcony. Ei

During this exciting but rainy game the squad backed their team with spirit. The cheerleaders decided a change was needed in the routines of the Mercer Island traditional cheers. The girls added Pink Panther, The Stripper and Minnesota Rouser which helped to make a more effective half-time and pre- game show. Some of the cheers and songs made up during homecoming week were used periodically throughout the year. The summer preceeding the 1966-1967 year was a busy one for the squad. They spent many days practicing and perfecting cheers and songs to help promote more spirit in our school. At the end of August there was a conference held at Redmond High School for all the King-Co league cheerleaders and yell kings. This conference gave the squad a chance to get acquainted and learn new ideas. At the conference the staffs were divided into two groupsg one discussed pep and how to promote spirit while the other discussed the rules and regulations of the league.
