Foreign Exchange Club Foreign Exchange Club, headed by co-presidents Ann Davis and Kris Carlson, vice-president Mugs Steenrod and treasurer Lizbe Steinhardt, worked to promote interna- tional understanding by sending two students abroad, one to Japan and the other to Germany. This year's foreign exchange student from Osaka, Japan, was Miwa Inoue. Carol O'Hop was our exchange student to .lapan this year. Reinhard Hinsch, the exchange student from Germany, came to the United States with Bob Miller, last year's ex- change student to Germany. The club raised money for its program by baking chess pies for the all school play. The Bond drive held late in the year helped finance our foreign exchange students going abroad. The club held an international day. Local foreign ex- change clubs were invited to taste foods of foreign lands cooked by the club's members. The group held a dinner in the mushroom that evening. The club is open to any student who is interested in the foreign exchange program and is willing to put in his time and effort to help make it a success. It is sponsored by Mrs. Gail Hollenbeck. Students wait anxiously to sample French cuisine at the November Spanish students scramble for goodies falling from the Christ French Club Potluck Supper. mas Pinata. ,Q German Club This year the German Club under Mr. Harst Gollnick's supervision, again invited all students to join and partici- pate in its various activities. President Debbie Reese, vice- president Mike McDonald and secretary-treasurer Liz Macklin presided over the club's meetings. I The club met on request numerous times throughout the year. Its chief objectives were to promote inter-class communication and help raise funds to support the for- eign exchange program. The Organization of Student Broadcasters, better known as 0.S.B., was created early in the year. It was the sch0ol's first successful lunehroom entertainment group. A daily program consisted of making important announce- ments and playing a never ending array of records that were supplied by the students. Bill Norton, the student responsible for the creation of the station, selected four other students to be announcers. They were Todd Hag- strom, Greg Taylor, Lane Bockman, and Hugh Lawrence. Hilding Larson, the group's technician, made sure that the tapes ran smoothly and the public address system was in adjustment. Chess Club The Chess Club was headed by president Kevin Cook, vice-president ,Ieff Fox, and treasurer Dean Ballard. The club participated in two leagues this year as a result of the Metro League's invitation to Mercer Island tojoin its chess league. Mercer Island was already an active member in the King Co. League. Several of the members of the club have received awards in chess tournaments. Jeff Fox won S20 in the Northwest Open, Dean Ballard took first place in class B competition as did .lim Humphrey.
