Class of 1984 Colors: Navy Blue and White Flower: White Rose Song: Separate Ways by Journey On a late August day back in 1978, the members of the class of 1984 presented themselves to Mercer High School. The six years since then have been filled with both exciting and boring times. Our 7th grade year was filled with the excitement of meeting new friends and adjusting to a new environment. The highpoint of the year was selling magazines and low point was studying Greek mythology. In 8th grade we found ourselves better adjusted, and we discovered we could dish out some of the abuse we had received the year before. Enjoyments of the year included attending canteen on Friday nights and once again selling magazines. As freshmen we received more abuse than we had as 7th graders. We were however at the top of the junior high. Everyone had the joy of touring the Vo-Tech, and the agony of sitting through careers class. As sophomores we had finally reached Senior high. Most of us spent the year trying to stay awake in World History and Biology, and trying to pass Geometry. During football season we witnessed the teams entrance into the play-offs for the 1st time in school history. We sponsored the Homecoming Dance in the fall, and we received our class rings in the spring. At the end of the year we celebrated our becoming juniors with a trip to Cedar Point. Our junior year was filled with several activities. We followed the tradition of selling candy bars at the beginning of the year. In October we had the 1st annual junior class volleyball tournament. In December we were treated to the movie Airplane. We staged the play “Night of January 16th”, and we presented the 1983 Jr.-Sr. Prom “Two Tickets to Paradise. It was at the House of Troy in Sharon. In the spring we had a class picnic and softball game, and we went to Cedar Point. On the last day of school, we said so-long to our junior year and hello to being seniors with a breakfast from McDonald’s. Our senior year we did our best to be in control. We were immediately exposed to the “fun” of POD and British Literature. In February, we were involved with the All-School-Musical, “Camelot.” Senioritis hit us early, but we stuck it out and finally we were near the end. The Class of 1985 sponsored the 1984 Jr.-Sr. Prom “All Night Long which was held on the Gateway Clipper River Belle in Pittsburgh. Once we were through with finals, we began practicing for the graduation exercises. These included an assembly honoring us as seniors, baccaulaureate, and finally on June 1, 1984, commencement. We say good-bye to MHS and to each other, and we each went our own way with memories to cherish forever. 17
