Because without it Mercer High School could not exist WE DEDICATE The 1967 Hi Times to Mercer, “Our Town.” Under the large white dome the hands on the clock move. Seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks and months fade into eternity. The seasons come and go. From the windows of the Mercer Area High School generations of students have looked out and up to the dome above the public square. East, west, north, or south, the appearance of the dome from the rolling hills and beautiful valleys surrounding the site of “Our Town” has brought recognition that one is nearing home. Here a hardy, self-reliant people, strong in their abiding religious faith and patriotism made the first step toward the establishment of a thriving community. Sparked by the sunshine of the day or the lights of the night, the dome shines out on our homes in comfortable residential areas, our churches, schools, recreational facilities, social organizations and industries. Many landmarks have disappeared to make way for the new. The youth of Mercer may well be proud of the cultural achievement on the fine educational plant, the excellent teaching staff, and the high standards provided for them by the community leaders. To “Our Town” we respectfully dedicate this issue of the Hi Times with our sincere appreciation of the public spirited citizens who are largely responsible for the Mercer of today. What man puts into life determines the fruits he shall gather. 4
