1958 Hl- TIMES MERCER HIGH SCHOOL ALMA MATER TABLE OF CONTENTS Dedication Mr. Grundy We didn't know him well, he wasn't at Mercer High School long, but we feel that having Mr. Howard L. Grundy with us, if only for a short time, should be classed as an enriching experience. He was a helpful man, of the understanding type, and one whose influence was great. We may never know the extent of his influence upon us, but because he has enriched our lives, he will never be forgotten. We, the 1957-1958 staff of the Hi-Times Staff, humbly and respectfully dedicate this book to the memory of our good friend and a wonderful person, Mr. Howard L. Grundy. 4 School Directors Front Row, I. to r. Odds and Ends 12 SENIORS Senior Class History The Senior Class of 1958 has had a long and profitable experience at Mercer High School. We have succeeded in readying ourselves to go to higher schools of learning and to enter the world of competition. There have been many memorable occasions during our six year stay here. We have the distinction of being the first graduating class that has spent all six years in the new building. There have been so many memorable events that it is difficult to recall all of them. We had many class parties, climaxed by the Prom, Rhapsody in Pink, which we held in our Junior year for the Seniors. It was a huge success because nobody, including us, thought we could do it. We also bought our class rings in our Junior year. The Senior year was the most rewarding year of all. This was the year we all felt on top of the world. During the year the Seniors sold refreshments at the football and basketball games so that we might have enough money to make the Washington Trip. Everyone studied hard and worked toward that one goal—graduation! In the spring came the coveted Washington Trip, which proved to be a fitting ending for our school days. Upon returning from the Capital, we were the honored guests at the Junior-Senior Prom and Banquet, Garden in the Moonlight. It was even more successful for the Seniors than for the Juniors because the Juniors did all the work. On June 4, 1958, to the tune of Pomp and Circumstance, we ended our high school careers. This was a night of joy and sorrow. We were happy to step into the world, yet we were saddened at the fact that we must part with some of the long standing friendships we had made. It is with joy and sorrow that we, the Seniors of 1958, remember Mercer High School. 14 BOAK, DAVID F.F.A. 1, 2, 3, 4. BUCHANAN, ROBERT Football 1, 2; Candlebearer 3; Projection Crew 3.
