Army T hirty -seven 1939-1940 Our Freshman Class History Wc entered high school with the feeling of triumph that we had reached high school at last. We found it wasn’t so easy as we had expected. The hardest task was to elect officers that would start us on our four years’ journey. We elected: Dorrie Davis ..........................................President Paul Zahniser ................................... Vice-President Jean King .............................................Secretary Julia O’Mahony ........................................Treasurer We had the very helpful guidance of Miss Munnell, Mr. Crowell and Mr. Ringer. Our first class party was held May 30 and was called the “Freshman Hop. We went to Conneaut Lake for our picnic on the last day of school. 1940-1941 Our Sophomore Class History In our Sophomore year we elected the following officers Dorrie Davis ............................President Mary Strosser ......................Vice-President Jack Brumbaugh ..........................Secretary Jim Mongiello . .........................Treasurer Our class party was called the “Sophomore Swing Session.’’ Thirty-eight 1941-1942 Our Junior Class History Our class officers for our Junior Year were: Richard Redic......................................President Paul Zahnisek ................................Vice-President Anna Crill ........................................Secretary Jack Wilson .......................................Treasurer We had a party called “St. Nick’s Jam Session.' Our class rings came and everyone seemed pleased with them. Our Junior play was a great success and with some of the proceeds we entertained the Seniors at the Junior-Senior Prom. We ended a happy year with Class Day which was held at Conneaut Lake. 1942-1943 Our Senior Class History Our nation was at war when we began our Senior Year of high school. During the year many changes have occurred which have greatly altered school life. We organized our class as soon as possible and elected our officers as follows: Richard Redic . Wayne Miller Lena Miller .. Jack Wilson . .... President Vice-President .... Secretary .....Treasurer The Year Book staff was then chosen and consisted of: Richard Redic......................................Editor-in-Chief Dorrie Davis ..................................Business Manager Bill Pollard...................................Photography Editor Jean King.........................................Literary Editor We held our class party which we called “The Harvest Moon Dance” on November 27. As no orchestra was available, we entertained our guests with recordings of their favorite orchestras and vocalists. Plans were then made for our class play which was presented to the public January 7 and 8. Miss Ellen Rocks directed the play which we had chosen, “The Whole Town’s Talking.” Our presentation was an outstanding success, which was a satisfaction to all. As our school year progressed, we became more and more conscious of the war. Many of our boys received their diplomas and left to enter the service: Joe Janke, U. S. Army; Elmer Livermore, U. S. Navy; Leo Kinney, U. S. Navy; Jim Mon-giello, U. S. Navy; Robert Hinds, U. S. Navy. The remaining boys in our class took a V-12 test given by the Army and Navy which will give them a chance to be sent to a college for training in either the Army or the Navy. Before we realized it, Baccalaureate and Commencement were drawing near. We set a new custom by deciding to wear caps and gowns for our Commencement exercises which were held May 28th. Thus, our high school term drew to a close, but we all feel that we have gained something which we shall never forget, in our years of school at M.H.S. To our classmates and to our teachers who guided us along the way, we should like to say: “We are the better for knowing you.” Gutojlaplu
