TIMES OF TOGETHERNESS. . . Moments of togetherness in students’ lives may range from watching a basketball game with a crowd, to sharing memories from an annual with friends, to capturing a moment of tenderness between a couple. All of these moments are times we have experienced at least once. At the moment each experience occurred, it may have been taken for granted. As we look back on these moments we cherish them, for they are imponant periods of growth and adjustment. RIGHT: Parents and faculty participate in student activi- ties. BELOW LEFT: Interested seniors remember past memories with an annual. BELOW RIGHT: Tim Lewis and Pat Clark engage in one of their many conversations. 8

TIMES OF ACCOMPLISHMENT. . . When you have done what you set out to do and have never said 'I quit,' you finish with a smile on your face. That is an ACCOMPLISHMENT.” FRANK PRESTON This poem, by Mac Mayes, was published in a national Scholas- tic magazine. This is one more of the many accomplishments Mercer students have obtained. THE SUMMER In the summer, in the evenings When the day's been warm, Then we walk without our shoes on In the long grass on the farm. The fireflies in the bushes Prick the darkness all around, And the crickets, very busy, Make their night-time summer sound. The grass is cold and dewy After all the long day's heat, But the stepping stones set in it Still are warm beneath our feet. 10 MAC MAYES ABOVE: Frieda Graham is the recipient of a state-wide 4-H award. MIDDLE: Mercer girls receive the district basketball trophy. BELOW: Mrs. Jones presents Larry Meaux with a check for his essay which was published in The Beta Journal.
