1974 A DAY What does it take to make a day? A lot of love along the way: It takes a morning and a noon, A father’s voice, a mother’s croon; It takes some task to challenge all The powers that a man may call His own: the powers of mind and limb; A whispered word of love; a hymn Of hope — a comrade’s cheer — A baby’s laughter and a tear; It takes a dream, a hope, a cry Of need from some soul passing by; A sense of brotherhood and love; A purpose sent from God above; It takes a sunset in the sky. The stars of right, the winds that sigh; It takes a breath of scented air, A mother’s kiss, a baby’s prayer. That is what it takes to make a day: A lot of love along the way. — William L. Stidger The school year at Mercer is filled with festivities, exams, meetings, decisions, sports, and finally the making of many friends. In this annual we have captured these moments DAY BY DAY. This, my goal of the last twelve years, Is what I’ve been waiting for. The days were faced with fun and games Along with my growing up; I’ve developed a personality — I’ve had to measure up. Not only to tests and teachers — Had to make it with my peers; And now that the struggle is over, I feel like shedding tears. I’m going to miss my classmates, And the teacher’s constant calls; I’m going to miss the notes and such We passed along the halls. Rut with the diploma comes a sad Thought growing inside of me: My adolescent years are gone — I must now face reality. Rv: Grace E. Nearly every member of the sen- ior class has had some part in the recording of these moments which have made our year. We would also like to thank the advertisers who made it possible for us to publish this annual. Vicki Shifflet and Karen Simpson 207 DAY Well, this is the end of a perfect day. Near the end of a journey, too. But it leaves a thought that is big and strong. With a wish that is kind and true. For mem’ry has painted this perfect day With colors that never fade. And we find at the end of a perfect day.
