To study a complete student to find out what he should do after graduation requires many tests and evalua- tions. Miss Graham does a great job of taking care of 800 students. Mrs. Graham Cibranj Our library provides an abundance of material useful for assignments or reference. I, Family Living Home Economics The Home Economics department is dedicated to the development of the talents it takes to run a home ef- ficiently. Not only are girls interested in this, but there are a number of boys who in Family Living, strive to learn things that will be useful for his future family. Agriculture In a rural community such as ours, a large percentage of our boys are involved some way in agriculture. The classes they take help them to gain the training they need and develop the qualities that are necessary for tomor- row 's community living. Commerce The Commercial Department subjects at Mercer County High gives instruction in typing, bookkeeping and shorthand. Students taking any of these subjects benefit from instruction in various principles and pro- cedures of record keeping, secretarial skills and business fundamentals. The Math Department establishes a foundation on which scientific minds may grow. Our Students are con- fident that the instruction they receive in this field will meet the requirements necessary for future studies and ' future jobs. The Health and Physical Educa- tion department strives to promote a harmony of mind and body to give every student the best possible oppor- tunity for thorough development in all phases of school life. This de- partment helps to broaden the student’s scope of the world today through detailed charts, maps, and other teaching aids. The conflicts and struggles of mankind are brought to life in the classroom. 74 Tine Jrts Our Fine Arts Department consists of Band, Chorus, and Art. These are special fields which teach students, interested in going into these fields after graduation, the mechanics of these fields. Varsity football Zeam Our fighting Scotties overcame many bad breaks and hardships to post a record of 3 wins and 7 losses for the season. They were plagued by injuries to many key players throughout the season, but never gave up. The highlight of the season came when the Scotties broke the school scoring record with a 62-20 win overM.M.I. in the Homecoming game. They all did a great job and we should be truly proud of them. GOLF TEAM LARGEST EVER Mercer's Golf Team had the largest team this year than ever before. This year's team was comprised of two 7th graders, one 8th grader, one Freshman, one Junior, and one Senior, Dennis Mayes. The team's record was 2 wins and 8 losses. The two victories were the first ever in the school’s record of golf matches. Science Club Most of the projects the Science Club completed were in the spring. They planned a one day outing for club members to hike through the woods and study trees and shrubs, plus insect life. Following this the club had a afternoon session of wading the river to col- lect and study aquatic life. They also built and launched model rockets. This project was handled by physic students. A. was very busy this year having their Senior Tea, and their Mother- Daughter Banquet. This year each member had to have 150 points and each officer had to have 175 points to be able to go to the ban- quet. They also elected new officers in April and installed them in May. The club is for girls who have had or are presently taking Home Ec. But playing in sports is not all the M-Club boys do. This year they sponsored a Blue-White Football game, which Mercer students attended. They also had a cook-out which is one of their regular events. So with boys around like these, Mercer can't go wrong. It also tries to help the school by donating a useful object to the cafeteria, library, or the school in general. Problems of the school are dis- cussed at each meeting and the Council tries to come up with a logical solutions. This year once again, the Council spon- sored a talent show giving prizes to the top 3 acts. The money made at the talent show went to buy a complete steroe unit for the school. That was the sound the Drill Team heard this year, along with many other orders. The Drill Team performed at home basketball games and marched in many parades throughout the year. So. next year when you hear those orders, it won't be the Army, just the Mercer Drill Team. 125 Mercer County Mand The Mercer County Band participated in many events this year. During the fall football season, they performed at half time. Two marching contests were attended at More- head College, and Ashland High School, plus marching in two Christmas Parades. The band also presented a Christmas Concert open to the public. During basketball season, the band was there to support the team by playing at home games. On April 27-29, the band took their annual band tour to General Butler State Park, playing concerts at Midway Junior College, Georgetown High School, and Carroll County Elementary School. After returning, the band presented their Spring Concert, playing many of the songs performed while on tour. The last event that the band partici- pated in was the K.M.E A.
