Through systematic training of the techniques of blocking or thwarting an attack and counter-attacking the opponent by punching, striking, and kicking, the human body can become effective as an actual weapon. To develop this skill, all essential principles of karate must be assiduously practiced. Members: Katsuya Kisaka Steve Milno, Mgr. Many of us consider such a product irrelevent. The major difficulty is a lack of interest, a reluctance to participate actively, on the part of most students, even those with previous yearbook or newspaper experience. Last fall, a group of six or eight ldepending on the day, the climate, the timej vaguely experienced lin the ways of a yearbookj students gathered to become the staff of VIKING '74. There were many differences of opinion and some personality clashes which resulted in tears, apathy and disinterest. With the passing of time, however, we began to involve ourselves in the hundred things that had to be done, and under the pressure of deadlines, we produced what you see before you. On the day this letter was written, the book was sent to press. We aren't quite sure what the finished product will be, but to Diane, Bob, Sue, Tris, Dave, Greg and Ivory, our sincerest and heartfelt thanks. We're grateful to everybody who stuck it out to the end. And to you, fellow student and graduate, now and in the years to come when you look back on your memories of MCCC fwhich may or may not be represented herej, we take this opportunity to wish you joy, good luck, happiness and whatever else the good side of life has to offer. Today VIKING '74 left my bags and envelopes. There are piles of and dead bodies here that will take weeks litter is incredible. We hope that the best of it was sent to the publisher. Every year I swear I'1l never go through this again, but by the time summer comes around and there is work that needs to be done QVIKING begins its birth agony in Julyj, I can't resist the temptation. It's never worth all the work and worry, I end up hating everybody and vice-versa. This year I had a staff of a dozen or so enthusiastic but highly untalented people to work with. In just a few weeks after school began, I had whipped them into a pack of snarling, clawing, screaming beasts that made more mess and trouble than the and I love every world has ever seen. They all hate me now, one of them. I always do. If there's something you don't like about this book, too bad. It's wrong because you didn't do anything to make it right. There's a yearbook waiting to be born that could use your mouth, your head and your hands. Leave me alone, I'm tired. Oh,yeah, congratulations to the class of '74. The MCCC team won quite a few trophys for the program, first in the Region XII airmeet in Wilming- ton Del. Where they took 4 first places, placed in almost every event at least once, and took the award for most trophys won at the meet! The success of this meet now qualifies them to compete in the National Meet in St. Cloud Minn. in May. But there's got to be some way To let the world know How you feel about leaving behind A chunk of your life. Am I sorry to go? NO WAY! Am I afraid to go? Perhaps. Is the world outside as crazy as this one? In its way and more. We'II all exchange addresses and phone numbers, But nobody ever calls, and who can think of anything to write? Maybe all of this just means that I'll recognize somebody on the street some far distant day And say, I went to school with that kid. Now what's his name? What did I do that I shouIdn't have? What didn't I do that I should have? lt's too late now for those questions to be answered For it's time to go. wffrwllj4Ea55,,:z::.:f'7ii' film -Y 1, STUDENT DIRECTORY 'T' Ci-at Gilbert Hale Ackerman, 24 Herbert La., Hackettstown Thomas E.
